And I think some of Will Ferrel's movies are funny. But this movie is on at Christmas time like its "A Christmas Carol" or "A Christmas Story", or "The Grinch That Stole Christmas". It's not that good at all. It doesn't deserve anywhere near such legendary status.

Now I have only seen it once, and I used to smoke a lot of weed back then, but I remember only maybe one scene in that movie where he fought a midget, where I laughed.

It does not belong in the same category as Miracle or Wonderful Life or Xmas Story (heck not even Bad Santa), but it was a good movie and is 100% appropriate for kids.

And I am not a fan of Ferrel's at all.

It's a terrible movie, made only to take your money just like most of Will Ferrels movies.
Sure, there may be 1 or 2 movies of his you like, but most are trash, and Elf is no exception.

i made it 5 minutes in before turning it off. i like will ferrell movies usually, but elf is right up there with land of the lost, imo.

It was not marketed as a kids movie, though. So for us adults, it was misleading. And beating up midgets usually doesn't happen in kids movies, so I am guessing it really was made more for adults and just wasn't very funny at all.

I think that like a lot of Will Ferrell movies the quotability of the movie is what makes it good. My sister loves it and has seen it 500 times, and is constantly quoting it, which for whatever reason makes it pretty funny to watch.

Maybe it's just my age, but I really don't find Ferrall all that funny period. So no even though I've seen Elf don't think it's that good.

BTW Bad Santa is a demented hoot.

I like Will Ferrell, I can't wait for Anchorman 2. It's been a while since I've seen Elf but I remember laughing a lot (although I was a lot younger when it came out). Doesn't stay in my mind like Bad Santa though, Bad Santa is a classic.

I hated Will Ferrell on SNL. There was the cowbell skit and that was pretty much it.

But his movies are much better.

I'm not big on Will Ferrell but I will say this.

He's better than Ben Stiller.
