Interesting. I wish the Yankees would buy us and put us on YES.

Most importantly, this will make it very hard to lock up Parise. I hate you Ilya.

Because theoretically, one 15 year commitment to a player is a huge, longterm investment, that could either dissuade or maybe entice potential owners. Who knows, but there'd be no way the Devils would try to lock up Parise longterm if JVB was trying to sell the team. You can't make that kind of move if you're planning on not being around to run the place. Now, I would assume any potential owners would absolutely want to keep Zach, but this certainly can't help speed up the process. Now, If Kovalchuk's contract didn't exist keeping Parise would be far simpler, and new ownership couldn't potentially think that two players with massive longterm deals would be too much.

However, none of that logic matters to me, because apparently JVB isn't selling the team.

ah gotcha see i would think that you would be more upset at lou for signing all those bad free agent contracts that are hampering us now and in fact hampering us to sign parise. or those stupid low level contracts to the likes of cory murphy ilya pikeraren or malakov mcgillis all those wasted dollars out of beeks pockets. or somehow not being able to find a head coach in the past 10 years? or having a coach yet let the players run wild and kill this team because they all have NTC's..... yeah i thought that would get you more upset. but your right be upset at a 6 million dollar cap hit for kovalchuk that is really keeping us from signing parise long term

Not to butt in, but why the Kovy hate? Yea I wish his numbers were better, but we got a super star for little over 6 million, and the guy is willing to learn from Lemaire. Basically he is saying I am a star, but still got plenty to learn in order to win.

Also if anything, Kovy adds value to the team if its for sale in my opinion. He has ability to bring casual fans to the Prudential center. Thats why Beek went after him. Business.

That was the thought, but he hasnt brought the casual fans. Of course that could be due to the poor season, but even after the trade last season he didnt bring in the casual fan.

First, although I very much enjoy the building being full, the idea of bringing in a player to bring in fans over win, is not my cup of tea. Second, I won't hate Ilya after Zach is safely secured for 7+ years, but like I said above, it's tough for ownership in a small market (yes we're a small market) to lock up two players to insane contracts like that.

This will only be further complicated by the potential sale of half the team. If you don't believe me, go look at the Stars ownership issues and how it's affecting them signing Brad Richards.

Finally, if you ask any person on this board who you would rather have, Parise or Kovalchuk. Every single person should be saying Parise. If we get them both locked up, great, but anyone who has ever criticized Rolston for only scoring half as much as he should have when signed, needs to point the same finger at Kovalchuk, because he's going to have a 50 point season.

we are a small market team? really? yet we are almost always at the top of the salary cap every year. man i know a bunch of buffalo/yotes/oiler/isle fans who wish they were that type of "small market". i mean we do live in the most expensive state when it comes to personal income.

listen no one was coming when we were winning either.....thats what and forgive me for being rude but thats what BORING hockey gets you. years and years of watching us match lines pando/madden getting massive ice time just kills anyone and their interest! i dont care if we win 2-1 i'm not going to put down for EXPENSIVE tickets to watch that crap. yeah this year sucked what are you going to do? if your going to base this kovalchuk deal on one year then yeah i guess it was a fail but lets get real? id also like to point out that our marketing for years hasnt been that great and im sure you dont have to look hard to find people that dont even know nj has a hockey team!

i agree that everyone would take parise over kovalchuk but lets get real kovalchuks 6 million hit isnt whats hurting us right now...and the funny thing is you should know that

I dont think you were being rude. I do disagree with your opinion though. If you thought the team was boring (which is a matter of opinion and not a fact) why were you watching the games? Last year's Devils/Rangers 1 - 0 game was one of the most exciting games all season. If you think most low scoring games are boring, thats fine, but dont try to pass it off as a fact. I'm prefer the games that have more defense than offense because if it makes it more of a team game. If all you care about are the goals, feel free to watch the highlights on Vs or the NHL Network.

Edit: Another thing about the "boring" hockey. Did you know the 2000 Cup Finals were the highest rated finals on ABC? I was honestly surprised when I read that.

We absolutely are a small market team that's being propped up by an overpaying contract with MSG+. Furthermore, this has been one of our worst attendance years in a long time.

Don't see the buffalo reference so much they play in a big hockey market and it shows in their profits and attendance

Cup, I seriously want you to explain to me how it's ok to annihilate Elias and Rolston on these boards when they were having 50 pt seasons (Elias) or seeing their goal totals drop (Rolston) but it's not ok to think Kovalchuk scoring 25 goals and 50 points is not acceptable after signing a $100M contract? Especially since he's supposed to be more talented than those players. I guarantee that if we had Paul Martin on this team right now instead of Kovalchuk and were playing 2-1 games, we'd be much, close to the playoffs.

Secondly, I've seen Kovalchuk take games off in person, and I'd much rather fork over money to watch a 2-1 Win than Kovalchuk parade around the ice like a figure skater.

I will admit, its some of the best figure skating in the NHL

Also, it's a statement of fact, that having a 6.6M player locked up for 15 years will make it more difficult to sign Parise. Furthermore, maybe Kovalchuk isn't killing the team with his turnovers, or horrible corsi, or +/- (don't forget we need to ignore the plus from the last game where the Devils scored with him down on the ice in the corner because he definitely didn't deserve that), BUT let's be blunt, the reason we're winning games right now is because of the play of Elias and Rolston. They're both on fire, and they play two ways, and somehow are still outscoring the the single faceted Kovalchuk.

im fine with defensive games but what im not fine with is when teams DONT try to score goals...i know your a new fan and all but i think you can tell the difference. that ranger game last year was a blip on the radar... 1 game. if you were to take a poll on what people would rather see defensive or offensive game what do you think the answer will be? BTW tbro i didnt say anything about facts dont you guys learn?

and yeah i hate to break it to you we arent small market because you cant be at the top of the spending and be considered small market. ask any buffalo fan or oiler fan how many times they have to watch their talent leave because they cant keep them? selling out games is one thing but its not enough.

and again 5 million for rolston isnt hampering this team? yes or no simple answer please
