My family and I were lucky to survive the flood. Our house was about to be swept away when our neighbor's house split in half and wedged in some large trees in such a way so as to deflect the force of the water, which saved my family and me. Watched a house with several people on the roof that was being swept downstream hit a bridge and collapse. I'm sure all of those people died. After the flood, we couldn't be rescued until the afternoon on the 10th. I unfortunately came upon several dead bodies near our house (I had just turned 14) while we were waiting for rescue. People who have drowned and their bodies pummeled in a flood present a picture that you don't soon forget.Shitty demise for a great ride!

Long story which I won't tell here, but I took some risks in the late stages of the flood to improve our chances of being rescued, which greatly upset my parents when they discovered what I had done. It involved me wading through waist high water (I was a scuba diver and unafraid of water even at that age) to a place where rescue was more possible and nobody knew I was there. So I got to the dry spot that was my target and the first thing I came upon was the body of 1 of 3 firemen that died in the flood. It was a very unpleasant sight to put it mildly. I returned to the house without telling my parents where I'd been. The funny thing was, rescuers through a megaphone asked if there was any way that our family could make it to this site, and Dad wasn't sure until I told him that I had already been there. Tons of stories about this flood,Can't really give this a like or winner without being disrespectful...wow, absolutely mind boggling story. I'm sure you wish you could unsee those unfortunate victims.
My sister in law was involved in a bad flood in the Ozarks territory of MO and her boyfriend at the time said he had to tie her to a tree to save her. Their trailer and his prized collection of 30 or so junked vehicles (he called it his retirement plan) were all washed away. But, I think the water level fell very quickly and they were not stranded for long.
Sure you can use your knowledge today. I put a new fuel injection system in my 98 Chevy, and many replacement parts. The truck has less than 100,000 miles on it but things are getting old. Next up 4wd front wheel bearings. Learned so much by rebuilding the 400ci engine in my first GTO. Luckily dad was a machinist and taught me well.'81 chevy custom deluxe pickup with a long bed. Nothing custom or deluxe about it except some glass packs. With a straight 6 it sounded like a cessna taking off. I ended up putting a 350 from a 68 vette into it. Then I got married and sold it to some mexicans for $2k. I learned so much about fixing cars by owning that truck and I have so many memories, good and bad. Too bad I can't really transfer much about what I knew to fix into today's cars except how to pop the hood.
I put a killer stereo into it, some rims with cooper cobras, a sliding rear window (my mom thought it was for getting beer from the bed with out stopping, she was right), a gun rack, one of those tool things and a CB radio with dual antenna.
I used to drive a Honda Silverwing until I got my truck. I sure miss both.
Next car was a 77 Cutlass supreme. Open road that thing was a dream.......

A 1970 VW Bug. I worked over the summer of 1976 saving nickles, dimes, etc. and found one for $1200. I absolutley loved it. I went into the US Air Force in '83 and sold it to a friend. About five years ago, I talked my wife into letting me buy another 1970 VW Bug and I went to test drive it. Now, I'm about 40 pounds heavier than I was 40 years ago and as soon as I sat down in the driver's seat, I said, "Sorry, but this just isn't going to work." Love the Bug, but much happier with the Ford F150 I bought instead a few days later.

Got my first job in the summer of 96 while in high school.
...couldn't talk pop into the v8 (which was admittedly for the best).
Had it for 3 years before I fell asleep at the wheel one saturday morning, on the way to work.
I flipped that fucker 3 times before it landed in a ditch along the expressway. I hopped out of it with only a scratch on my cheek.
