No offense but I always felt sorry for drivers of Chevettes or K Cars.

They were cars with zero appeal.
tell me about it.

I did step up to an 1984 Delta 88 about 6 months later when the transmission went out on the chevette. This was in 1989, so a 5 year old car was pretty sporty, at least for me it was.

Something like this, but with a little more "age" on it.

Damn!! A lot of ya'll had some nice rides for a 1st car. I had this 500 dollar beater.
I had a green AMC Pacer that looked like a fucking moon buggy and the doors weighed about a ton each. It had a choke on it on the inside. I wasn't as fortunate as you.

In 1986, my aunt died and left me her 1980 Pontiac Bonneville. I sold it for 2k. I had saved money from mowing lawns for 4 yrs. I took the 2k and added it to my savings and bought a 1984 Toyota Supra. The car was beautiful at the time. It was so fast. So yes I had the nicest car in the school for a brief period until someone got a brand new Corvette. On August 26, 1995 I was coming home from my sister in laws wedding. I heard some weird clanking noises. Blown motor. I had it towed to a mechanic. I ended up selling it to him for 300 bucks. I saw it one time after that. To this day it was my most favorite car I have ever owned. I just didn't take real good care of it.

Those Supras were pretty. A big improvement over the previous version. Looked very exotic.

My first car was a 1964 Mercury Comet 2 door. 289 with a 4 speed Top Loader transmission. I lent it to my brother one day and he wrecked it on the freeway..

^^ Oh, wow. My grandfather bought my mom one of those brand new on her 19th birthday and she loved it. I came home from the hospital after I was born in that car (7 years later).

No offense but I always felt sorry for drivers of Chevettes or K Cars.

They were cars with zero appeal.

I had a friend who had a Chevette, and we put GT (the BMX Bike brand) stickers on it. He told girls he had a "Vette GT". It worked until they *saw* the car.

Mine was a 1957 Beetle, much like this one except dark green.
279_main_l.jpg

Bone stock, not even a factory radio (we put one in though) I think I bought it for 300ish in 1986. I loved that car. It had the roof rack, which is why I bought it (easy to throw my bike on top and go). It slowly died, first, third gear stopped working. Then the clutch started slipping. Eventually second went and I sold it to a local VW guy in part trade for a 1967 Beetle he had fixed up. He let me keep the roof rack, though.

Now, knowing what oval window bugs are going for, I wish I'd kept it. Well, that and a lot of other reasons. All I have left is the gear shift knob.

Could fill it up on Friday and roam all over creation for the weekend and not have to fill up again.

a 1976 Mercury Cougar is the first car that I had bought with my own money. The pic here is just about it

mercury75cougar2.jpg

I had it about 2 years and at age 19 or so I totaled it out going down a city street listening to music at about 30mph I needed to change the radio station or put in a new cassette tape in my under the dash Pioneer stereo cassette player. Not paying attention to the road I turned slightly to the right and ran smack into a parked car pushing it from being parked on the street to being parked in the next driveway in front of it like it was parked there perfectly.

no seat belts my head bumped off the window but did not get any injuries and only bent up my glasses. I guess this would kind of be like texting and driving now days.

First car I bought, I never drove. I was 15.
'73 Torino, red with white top and white-ish interior. 302 with 200k+ miles. $200 bucks and the guy I bought it from took his plates and walked straight in the bar. A buddy of nine tat had his license offered to drive it to my house 1/4 mile away for me with no plates. Cops were on us before the 1/4 mile was done. I think the guy I bought it from called them. Like this one bot whiteish top. I gave it to my dad for parts for his 4 door.

Second car was a '74 Malibu classic almost identical to this one. 350 with 70k. $2200. Beautiful car. 24 hours after I got my license I hit a patch of ice and went over the river and through the woods. Totaled it. Took the insurance money and bought another. A White one with a blue top, blue velour interior. A month later I was power sliding all around the back roads while drinking boiler makers. Rear end caught an embankment and flipped me. Totaled it.

Took the insurance money and bought an 82 Mercury Capri RS 5.0. Great car. Much like this one but dark grey stripes and black interior.

Still have it 31 years later.

I had a couple motorcycles for my first vehicle, totaled both before I gave that up lol.

My first car was a 89 Chevy Corsica I bought for 300 bucks from a buddy while I was searching for something better. It wouldn't die. Got beaten up bad in a hail storm, driver window was off the rail (could pull it up then hold it there and crank it and it would stay but would just drop in the door completely if you gave it a 1/4 turn down). Steering ignition went out (could start by pulling a lever under the wheel), no cruise, heater just blasted heat through all vents, etc... Had 100k miles when I got it, quit looking for a newer car, and 200k when I sold it to a buddy for 300 bucks 5 years later. He drove it 100 miles a day as a commuter for 2 years.

1993 Mazda MX-3

300px-95_MX-3_RS.jpg

V6, manual transmission... Man I miss this car. Looks dainty but it was a lot of fun to drive. Especially since the tiny frame was packed with a 1.6L V6. Drove it through junior high & highschool. Bought it for $3k. It actually was a pretty reliable car. Only had one radiator problem in 4 years of driving it. I went through brake pads at a faster than average pace, but that's because I drove with a lead foot. Sold it to a family friend after my first year of college so that I could buy a truck. The guy ended up blowing the engine out. He rebuilt it himself and then rolled the car a few months after that. Probably got sent to the scrapyard. RIP

Never owned one of those but always liked them for their teeny V6.

Yep... Not overly powerful, but was perfect for the small frame. I think it pulled just under 100hp.

In the summer of 1976 I moved to Rock Springs Wyoming. Met up with a buddy from home too work in the oil fields. We pooled together to buy a 1965 Dodge Coronet for 50 bucks. Neither I, nor my friend had DL's as we were still both 15 at the time. I remember being pulled over and both of us only having California drivers permits. The cop was laughing in a WTF kind of way. Told us we needed somesort of Wyoming ID's. When pressed, he suggested the library.

Back then,a car owner kept their plates when they sol their cars. We never put plates on the car.

As to the fate of the car? I stayed through the summer, leaving the car with my friend, He would often go out and drive into the desert drunk while trying to shoot jack rabbits. He ended up putting the car into a ditch and walking away.

Seems dumping an old car off into the desert was pretty common in the day.;

First vehicle was a 1967 VW Bus (blue & white as above). Had a little electric fan on the dash. My brother and I owned this together. Sold it to a high school girl I dated once or twice and used the money to buy & fix up a 1967 VW Bug (red as below).

Mine was a 1971 Pontiac LeMans.
After 2 transmissions, 10 speeding tickets, and 2 accidents (not my fault), I sold it for $100.
(it actually still ran)

that's not it, but darn close.:omg:

A Pontiac Man - small world LOL. I had a 68 GTO, wrecked it twice, & kept repairing it, also owned 2 more 68's and sold both of those to my best friend who wished he never sold them much like me. My best friend is putting the finishing touches on a 1969 GTO, a field find which was a total ground up rebuilt which he did himself using a 1977 400ci Trans Am motor because the GTO's was missing, that car is a thing of beauty complete with Ram Air IV and his and her shifter.

134.jpg Not mine :hellno:
