If Smith doesn’t play and decides to retire, I hope he has enjoyed his last win (instead of being upset he couldn’t give it a go):

(I presume if Heinicke wins, Washington will ride that as far as they can. Maybe some gamesmanship in between if it’s a defensive/running win.)

I can’t imagine him feeling any other way tbh. Just stepping on the field again was an incredible accomplishment, he seems like an intellect who gets that. What a warrior.

And when he does decide to retire he will have two legs to walk with and a very nice nest egg to enjoy his retirement with.

I think he'll still feel that there's more to possibly achieve such as winning a Super Bowl.

Agreed that those thoughts have been thought. Given his calf issues as a manifestation of overall health required to achieve that goal over the course of a regular season, his age and his family, hope that becomes the goal via coaching myself.

This was shown during the WFT/TB game.

PFF Ranking
RB JD McKissic - 54 of 70
WR Terry Mac - 28 of 131
WR Cam Sims - 103 of 131
WR Steven Sims - 122 of 131
TE Logan Thomas - 38 of 70

OT Cornelius Lucas - 12 of 38
OG Wes Schweitzer - 12 of 39
C Chase Roullier - 6 of 37
OG Brandon Scherff - 4 of 43
OT Morgan Moses - 6 of 40

Some thoughts
Given the state of TE play this year. I think LT could've been ranked higher as both his blocking and receiving improved as the season progressed.

From these rankings its hard to argue against @deanpet21 position that a serious upgrade is needed @ WR. It'll be interesting come next season to see how RR n crew feel about the position and what they plan on doing.

Better and more consistent QB play as well as getting it going in the 1st half of games would do wonders for the marks of the skill position players.

If the rankings are accurate there's not too much say about the OL except damn fine job fellas. Maybe switch the guards or the tackles and see how that would work, but overall....damn. Fine job indeed, gentleman.

Yeah, it may depend on his calf/leg and seeing how that heals overall, but if it turns out that he gets the A-OK from doctors far as that goes. I expect AS will be returning for at least 1 more shot at SB glory.

Far as winning a SB as a coach. I recall an interview with former Halos manager, Mike Scioscia who managed the Angels to their only World Serie title back in 2002. He also won 2 as a player with the Dodgers in 81 n 88. The interviewer asked him something along the lines of was winning a WS as a player and a manager comparable. W/O hesitation he said something along the lines of winning as a manager didn't come close to winning as a player.

I wouldn't be surprised if the vast majority of former players who had become managers or coaches felt the same way. Or it may have more to do with just how much one played as a player during the title run. Scioscia was primarily the Dodgers starting catcher when they won those WS. Maybe if he was more a back up and didn't play as much he'd feel different. Hopefully that's a question someone can pose to RR one day. Seeing as he was a rookie back up LB on the Bears 85 championship team.

THANK YOU!!! Lucas and Schweitzer are the unsung heroes of this offense. With Charles coming back. They could bypass OT in the draft. Even if we dont sign Scherff back, Charles can be an OG. Christian could be the 3rd OT.

As far as WR if we sign a big time FA like a Robinson or Hilton and draft a WR in round 1 and our WR core will be set for a long time. It would be Tmac, The FAWR, 1st round draft pick, and AGG. The 5th and 6th WR we can look for St or returners to fill those roles.

If we role with TH or Allen and keep all our draft capital we should be able to compete for another division title next year. If somehow we get Stafford we lose draft capital but we should be favorites to win the division next year.

Is there anybody arguing that the skill positions on offense DONT need to be upgraded?

I dont think so.

terry mac’s ranking seems low. He was dealing with an injury, and is literally the only consistent downfield wr threat.

I read an article about the wr coaches at ohio state being among the very best in the nation. After all, terryMac was wr3 at OSU, right?

I dont follow college football.
If so, maybe the new wr 2 or 3 at OSU is somebody to target in the middle rounds.

It depends on philosophy. I liked Lucas and Schweitzer; however, why weren’t they already known commodities? Is it possible they excelled because of who they played alongside? They could have passed on an OT regardless. The success of Lucas and Schweitzer has no bearing on Charles moving to G or Christian being a 3rd tackle. This type of thinking leads to draft moves based on fear. If Penei Sowell were to miraculously fall to 19, would you bypass him for the fourth best WR in the draft? You draft off of talent and positional value. Drafting on need is just plain stupid.

Your idea of the WR position assumes success of the incoming receivers. The problem with that thought is it has no bearing on history. Hell, Antonio Brown was the best receiver in football, but failed in New England. Randy Moss is one of the best in history but failed in Oakland. As a matter of fact, most FA WRs fail. As for drafting a WR, they fail all the time.

I like that you are planning, but not HOW you are planning. The only positions that are off the board regarding draft and FA are DE and DT. We should approach every position as open. There are four phases of FA and we should approach them methodically.

Phase one- resigning our own. This phase is highlighted by Brandon Scherff (14-15 mil/season) and Ronald Darby (10-11 mil/season). Signing these two leaves us with two fewer competitions for starting jobs.

Phase two- free agency.
Phase three- the draft.
phase four- free agency.

Well of course if Sewell was there but that is not going to happen. With the success of Lucas and Scheitzer it could be a possible exit for Scherff. I would argue that Darby is more important to bring back then Scherff. I think we lose Moreau to FA. With the money we safe from Scherff could loom large in FA to get upgrades at multiple positions.

We made big offers last year for Cooper and Hooper so I think you might see the same this year at the WR position. Especially if they let Scherff walk. Plus if they roll with Allen or TH at QB that's even more money for us in FA. But I wouldn't rule out acquiring Stafford.

I'm not near the Scherff fan as some are, but that seems like some odd math. Your OG n OT who both played on the left side of the OL. Graded out in the upper third of their respected positions. So that means you let your right side guard who graded out in the upper 10% of his respected position simply walk away? What do you propose they do with the hole left by Scherff's exit?

We have no idea where Sowell really shakes out, especially considering the combine isn’t done. That being said, Sowell is probably out of reach as I don’t expect any surprises with him; however, you completely miss the point. You don’t pass on better players at key positions for lower graded players at more “luxury“ positions.

Why would Lucas or Schweitzer have any impact on bringing back the AP G?

You can argue about the importance of bringing back Darby, the guy who has spent a single year in Washington after a history of injuries. I know the counter would be Scherff has been injured too, but I would have to ask how good would Darby be without our front four?

So we should weaken the interior line by allowing an AP to leave, so we may sign a guy or two that MAY improve other areas of the team?

If we look at last season, why would you expect them to allow Scherff to leave? We did make big offers to Cooper and Hooper...how did they do with their new contracts?

As for QB, keeping Scherff doesn’t prevent us from going after Stafford...maybe we should hope it does though.
