Facing a fierce online backlash, Paulding County Schools Superintendent Brian Otott told parents and guardians in a letter that the images “didn’t look good.” But he argued that they lacked context about the 2,000-plus student school, where masks are a “personal choice.”

Hannah Watters, 15, wore a mask as she captured the inside of her school. On Wednesday, she ended up with a five-day suspension for violating the district’s student code of conduct, BuzzFeed News reported. The rules bar students from using social media during the day or using recording devices without the permission of an administrator.


So... masks which are known to help promote safety and reduce virus spread are a personal choice, but you can't take a picture when you're not in class. Silver lining... kids who don't feel safe being in school just figured out a way to stay home. Bad part - the guy running their county schools clearly does not give a shit about the safety and well being of the children in his care. Georgia is really challenging Florida for that worst state championship belt.

Opening schools is going to accelerate virus spread so much. If grown adults can't wear mask and we aren't even enforcing kids to do so (sorry, when I was in school, you didn't have the same rights/options as adults) - half a million Americans dead by the end of year wouldn't surprise me at all.

So they took a photo/video of a school that went mildly viral and shrewdly turned into a discussion on Constitutional rights and an infinitely bigger story where the Principal went on record saying it's nearly impossible to mandate and police the use of masks in schools... And then thought saying "oh, my bad. She can come back" will fix it?

That Principal must be a product of the Georgia education system.
