So all of Cooke's dirty hits were "hockey plays?" I guess that's why no Pens brass/player/fan had a problem with Ulf/Cooke until Sid got hurt. All we heard was "Cooke's really a good player, I wish he wouldn't play like that."

You're really reaching.

No, not all of Cooke's dirty hits were hockey plays. The elbow which got him suspended wasn't, but it did occur during game play. That's where the difference lies. Cooke's actions were scummy, no one is saying otherwise. Ulf was a dirty player. We acknowledge these things. But Thornton stepped farther over the line with that action.

And we did want Cooke to clean up his act, because when he wasn't busy making stupid dirty plays, he was an effective hockey player. He was a good penalty killer, sound defensively otherwise, could score goals, and was very good on the cycle.

Why the hell are you bringing up Ulf? It wasn't a good play obviously, but it was 1991. It's irrelevant. Cooke is barely relevant. The guy doesn't play for this team. He served time for his idiocy, albeit unfortunately not for that play. You're bringing up ancient history for something that happened 20 minutes ago.

Same here Gooch. Unfortunately some clown who says he's a Pens fan here claims the league gives the Bruins a free pass all the time yet he has no problem with the past history of a certain 2 former Pens players.

Homerism can really cloud reality.

For people who don't like fighting in the NHL, you sure don't seem to mind fighting on a message board.

What Cooke did weekly was a highly illegal hockey play. What Thornton did was not a hockey play. It was criminal.

FTFY.

But what Cooke has done in the past has no bearing on how Thornton just gave hockey another black eye. Who cares that Cooke is a dirtbag? It's common knowledge. It doesn't anyone cart blanche on any Penguins player for the rest of time.

"Look over there", let's not talk about the assault that just happened on the ice, the only relevant thing is that a few guys who wore the same sweater in the past did things that were bad.

It's deflection, so as to not face what just actually happened on the ice.

:confused2:

If this all comes down to that one clown (who I also told off), why are you also going after Pix, element, theddd, gooch, and me with your posts?

Also, I think Shawn Thornton has a role on the Bruins he plays well. He's physical, he'll fight, protect, PK, etc. but there's no defense for his actions.

Gotta hand it to the Bruins Defensemen, play goalie better than Rask at times.

Pens fans here wanted Cooke to clean up his act but what about Mario? Never did we hear about him talking to Cooke until Sid's concussion.

But how is that relevant to your disputes with our opinions? Do you presume we control Mario's actions?

Man the Pens bench is a bit bare right now. 5 D and Kunitz out. Woof.

I was the first person to post how stupid Thornton was. It's the members who act like no Pens player has ever wronged a player with dirty cheap shots that have me posting my replies. Ulf's and Cooke's actions are ancient history so let's forget they ever happened right? There's a reason the league is taking so much time to get the dirty play and fighting out of the game. Far too many people like it and sadly I doubt it'll be out of the game in my lifetime.

You continue to reach for straws. None of this constitutes what happened on the ice. Mario didn't publicly chastise Cooke (although there's plenty of evidence he did in private) so clearly Thornton should go attack Brooks Orpik in 2013.
