You may want to research that. Cam has come out and said that hit didn't end his career but I'm sure you are well informed of this since he was a Bruin. Keep crying tho.

That hit started all the leg problems that shortened his career. Apparently YOU'RE the only fan who doesn't see it that way. And Neely isn't the only player to feel the dirty wrath of Ulf that's for sure

Nice to see a fan of the opponents admitting his team did something wrong.

Once we saw the play (the Root broadcast focused on the Thornton/Orpik incident, and most of us missed it in real time), we all pretty much said the same thing. I mean, there's not really any defending it unless you think (and I suppose it is a possibility) that it wasn't intentional.

That was stupid, and probably worthy of a game or two suspension. But Thornton deserves jail time for that.

I don't recall you calling for jail time for Cooke when he was injuring players. Dirty is dirty

19 penalty minutes for my Bruins already?

Let's have more PPs and cash in on a higher percentage of them, Bruins!

Ulf was as dirty as they get. I am glad he was on the Pens for many reasons and 1 of them is so he couldn't hurt Mario. lol

Cam Neely didn?t dwell on Ulf Samuelsson hit - Boston.com

Medical professionals now tell Neely that his deteriorating right hip is not related to the Samuelsson hit. It is essentially arthritis of the hip that ended his career, and doctors say there is no tracing its root cause back five years ago to the Pittsburgh Civic Arena. It would be difficult to convince most, if not all, Bruins fans that Neely’s hip condition isn’t related to the punishing Samuelsson blow.

Yeah except the fact he turned into Marchand. Plenty of open ice yet he took that route.

Referencing Ulf and Cooke is useless in this situation. The reason this happened is because Thornton couldn't get Orpik to fight earlier because of a CLEAN HIT on Erikkson. Reasons fighting is silly. Clean hits shouldn't result in a fight, and a guy should be allowed to refuse a fight. But that wasn't okay in Thornton's small peanut brain, and he decided Orpik should be assaulted instead. It had little to do with Neal's knee, Thornton was goading Orpik all night. Neal's play was idiotic, but Thornton literally assaulted someone on the ice. I'm sorry, that was similar to the Bertuzzi hit. Not quite as bad, but there were similarities.

Pix has been pretty consistent in her stance against head shots. But there is a difference (albeit subtle in many cases) between delivering a hit to the head during game action and attacking a guy from behind when he's engaged with someone else not during the play.

What Cooke did was a highly illegal hockey play. What Thornton did was not a hockey play.

That says it all huh? And the Pens organization, including Mario, never complained about it or Cooke's hits. It wasn't until Sid got concussed that the Pens suddenly went on a crusade for clean play. Karma's a bitch sometimes.

You're fairly deluded. Cooke was a chump, that hit was stupid, but it's something that does happen in hockey. I hated that hit. HATED it. The league failed to take action, and it was silly. But hits to the head happen in game play. Thorton just attacked someone who was talking to a ref, slew foot, elbowed in the head, and punched his head into the ice. The only way Cooke's play could be similar is if he sucker punched Savard while he laid on the ice.

I didn't say that's what I thought of it. I said it was the only possible rationale a person could have for thinking it was a 2-minute penalty (essentially).

Do you even read my posts, or do you just want to argue with me? :noidea:

I tuned in late and didn't see the play or the reaction. But objectivity from opposing team fans is something I don't see as often as I wish I did. Objectivity from Bruins fans likewise.

So all of Cooke's dirty hits were "hockey plays?" I guess that's why no Pens brass/player/fan had a problem with Ulf/Cooke until Sid got hurt. All we heard was "Cooke's really a good player, I wish he wouldn't play like that."

You know, I don't know who complained about what. I don't even really care honestly. I don't like cheap shots no matter who does it and that's it.

Let me clarify I don't blame the Bruins, the city, or the fans...nothing sillier than associating goonery of ONE to a whole team or city (unless it's a freaking line brawl, then the team can take some crap). This is plainly on Shawn Thornton. He went from one end of the ice to the other to attack a specific player. It's sickening, and he better get a hefty suspension.

Same here Gooch. Unfortunately some clown who says he's a Pens fan here claims the league gives the Bruins a free pass all the time yet he has no problem with the past history of a certain 2 former Pens players.
