Kanes long time girlfriend looked very uncomfortable kissing him last night, his sisters on the other hand, wow. Great night going from the scum of the earth without trial to being named the best hockey player of the season.

I dont get the Malkin deal. You have AA, Schmaltz better step up and be ready this year or he might stay three years in rockford, Krueger, Rasmussen who they say will only play center, they will not move him to wing, ton of european talent coming, players wasting away in Rockford that can contribute.

did they give Krueger that 9 million dollar deal so he would be easier to move? after seeing the PK turn when he returned, I cannot see that move. Yes, Malkin is a talent, but thats the cap hit for 5 players.

"We're trying to look forward. We're trying to make this situation the best with the salary cap,” Bowman said.

He added that he will talk to “some people” in free agency, but also said it was time to give some young players in the system their chance.

Stan Bowman Has "Another Tough Day"

I'm really not a fan of Bowman, much of his success is on the back of a team built by Dale Tallon
Disagree Irish. The argument could be made that Tallon "bought" the 2010 Cup. We had to part with a lot of those guys because of his salary generosity. Given that Stan had to make some changes because of the salary cap, he inherited a contractual mess from Tallon.
Don't get me wrong, a Cup is a Cup. But losing Brower, Campbell, Ladd, Neimi and Versteeg who were key contributors was tough.

Glad that Teuvo is gone. Panarin did what Teuvo should have done.
Besides, we can't keep adding players that shy away from contact. We already have Kane and Panarin who you rarely see muck it up in the corners. Kane at least scores to offset that. Teuvo was another one - and he doesn't score. Enjoy the shawarma in Quebec.

Love the Panik signing!

Hate the Shaw trade. I realize it was justified. :sigh: Another low-salaried player up for a contract. But this is what gets most NHL teams in trouble - overpaying. I guess this is a good thing, right? Hawks are that good that we have an annual problem of trading away decent, fan-favorite talent. I hope Shaw does well.

The other way to look at it is both Teuvo and Raanta were alot more valuable before they started playing and the way it turns out, we get nothing much back for them. Vancooeeever was hot for Teuvo, instead we keep him and end up give them Danault who did alot of the dirty work. Just seems like Q knows with one to 5 games whether the player is going to be his type of player. We have watched D men get one or two starts, back to rockford and traded. I thought Danault showed that grit.

I do think Teuvo was kept around figuring he would step into Kanes role if Kane left to free agency, or if he was put in prison and or suspended by the league. Kane signed, Kane seems to have straightened his life up, but a gift to take bickells contract just stings.

Shaw was eventually delegated to fourth line. He also got his shot at the lottery line and although he did better than most, it was still light and definitely not worth putting the team right back in the bickell situation.

Yahoo's Puck Daddy gave the Hawks a draft grade of B+

Most of the grades were pretty favorable for all of the NHL teams. Worst grades were two C- (Columbus & Minny).

a day before free agency starts, Bowman resigns Manshinter and Rosival to deals. Rosie gets 600K, sounds like 600k that could have helped get soup.

All of the rumors seem to point to Campbell signing a one year deal, and the Hawks also signing a couple of cheap forwards. Unless, of course, the persistent rumors about trading Crawford come to fruition which could open up the cap space for something more significant depending on what came back in the trade.

Hawks have place David Runblad on waivers to buy out the final year of his contract, so thats more money that will be spent split over the next two cap years. So we will have Campbells bonus money and part of Runblads to count against next years cap.

I guess it was either Ladd or Campbell, since Ladd is apparently signing a 7 year deal with the Islanders. I guess Ladd is one that wanted length or girth.

Money is flying around in basketball, while big names in hockey are signing pretty low deals compared to the hawks standards. I though Stamkos would be teetering on that 10 million AAV, not close. Most deals are going 4-6 million. Ladd was 7 years 38.5

Wondering if the Hawks might be able to pick up Alex Tanguay on a cheap one year deal if he stays unsigned for much longer.

I have no idea how the salary cap works in the NBA?
But the NBA most likely gets a lot more TV revenue and marketing dollars than the NHL.
Not sure if that revenue can factor into NBA salaries like it does in the NFL?
Pretty sure that ridiculous NFL TV revenue dollars are the driving force in the vomitus "guaranteed money".

Would be nice sometimes if NHL teams could restructure a player's contract.
But to be honest, I like that they can't. It should prevent teams from overspending into oblivion.

Just realized I made a lot of statements and have no idea if any of them are true? :noidea:
