We just won a shootout where the defense decided not to show up and our play calling was to go for the throat the entire game. I've bagged on the guy as much as the worst but that was impressive play calling. We've blown out teams before but the Steelers are legit and they were fighting for their lives just like we are right now. Barn burner and the offense showed that they could go blow for blow with them. Hopefully this is how we look moving forward.

Can't give him anything higher when he's still calling for those god damned WR screens that do absolutely nothing

Every play caller has plays that seem like throw-aways. I think it's more of the previous results in prior games on those calls that make it infuriating. 5 TD's on 30 attempts, and I'm pretty sure every one of them came from the pocket on Wilson's first read.

Can't get any higher on him after this game, than I can get lower on him for so many others. He's but a piece of the machine and so many other parts break down routinely.

Just like Kearse. Once again he has issues early and ends up doing something heroic later. Which do you key on when talking about his game? Well, both really.

A+ is too high. B/B+ is fair because it was a good game overall. Just too many head scratchers like the two point play to Smith and sticking with the read option after Rawls started off so hot on those downhill running plays.

Good grief when a guy throws for 5 td's and zero picks, and is money on 3rd and long all game long, what does he have to DO to get an A grade around here.

That's what's known as a tough room.

I give Carroll credit for changing their philosophical gameplan.

He took the reins off of Bevell and let him call an aggressive game.

It was the best game our offense has had in a long time, buuuuuuut you have to give wilson credit for being on the money.

It also helps that the steeler secondary is garbage.

B+. I'm still baffled at the lack of execution on 2 pt conversions.

I think it's more about pass protection than anything else. Russell is actually having a couple seconds to sit back and fire, and the last 2 weeks it's allowed him to play up to his abilities.

We had the ball, up by two. 3 minutes left and Pitt had two time outs.

With a three and out, Pittsburgh would have had plenty of time to drive into field goal range, regardless of whether they had 3 minutes or 2 minutes to do so. We needed first downs. What does Bevell call up on 1st and 2nd down? Run middle for a total of 3 yards. Giving us a 3rd and long, and potentially a play away from handing the ball back to that potent Pitt offense. Luckily we busted that 3rd down play for a TD.

By no means do I want to be a debby downer but Bevell put us in a position to lose that game. I am ready to see what a new OC can do with our offense...

Yep, how dare Bevell call for a fumble on 2nd and 7! I mean, what offensive coordinator thinks that a fumble and recovery for a 3 yard loss is a good play. Hopefully, they tear that one out of the playbook going forward!

No kiddin. Let's just run that 80 yard TD pass every time. How could we lose?!

To me, this post is proof positive -- and I'm not trying to single you out because there are many out there sharing your opinion -- that fans should just stop bitching about playcalling. This guy just can't get it right, even when the plays work and we win on the strength of the offense and the plays he's dialing up.

Its easy to blame playcalling whenever players fail to execute. Same seems to be Going for the defense this year.
