Grab the coffee, we've got a west coaster tonight and tomorrow. The Rangers visit Oakland for a weekend set. 8, 8, and 3 are your times, Howard, Hearn and Perez are your throwers. Seager returns to the lineup from his All Star excursion, and the Rangers look to keep the offensive wave moving. Oakland comes in as the last place team but they always play the Rangers tough, and we aren't exactly putting Gibson and Spahn on the mound in this one.

They should at least listen to offers.

I think Perez falls into the category of a piece that you pick up along the way as you build your team and open the window. The Rangers have built a damn good farm and aren't in a position of need there. If some team comes in with an offer too good to pass up, then I obviously would want them to pull the trigger.

Oakland always seems to take at least 1 game every series from us no matter how bad they have played so 2-1

wouldn't be surprised to see Howard and Hearn beat them but we lose the Perez game. Baseball is a weird sport.

No coffee for me late night!
But good chance I am up as this is the weekend.
Let’s see if Howard is an adequate placeholder or dare I say more

The Rangers have always wanted and gotten clubhouse vets. Thinking that trend continues but if the offer is good why not?
Maybe we still sign him in the off-season

You would think he could be solid against Oakland anyway.

I think I read the other day that Perez's ERA since about June 5th or so, is close to 4.50. It might be wise to see how he pitches over the next few weeks before extending him.

Martin Perez 2022 Pitching Game Logs | Baseball-Reference.com

Looks like he had a rough start in June and another this month. Also important to remember his May was the best month a Rangers starter has ever had, which was an extreme outlier and made his stats look better.

No crime in waiting but if his last month becomes the norm I would still extend him for a year with an option.
We get what we expected at best in the beginning. Decent starter who chews up some innings. We will still need that next year

Also Perez might have eased up and for the big head. He will have to go back to his prep and succeed to get the higher dollar contract

I can't imagine his agent entertaining that idea.
If he has an era of 4.50 and at his age then he might not warrant a long term contract but that’s my own shot in the dark

he's 31 and having an All-Star season so far. the Rangers would have to offer at least 3 years to start the conversation, and that might not be enough to do it.

I’m afraid someone like the Dodgers or the Yankees might throw a lot of money him. Then we will see how bad he wants to stay here.
