i dont think brissett is gonna upgrade you much thats just me.....and rosen, hes just like mitch right now.......u dont need a project...u need safety and or masssive upsdie

Safety won’t come cheap... IMO “safety” brings us back around to Dalton..

That’s really my point... Nothing “Safe” about Mariotta , but again maybe you catch lightning in a bottle. I bring up Rosen, only because he was thrust into starting roles in two awful situations. Our situation is better than Arizona or Miami and just MAYBE he would take off with us.... I’m not saying for sure... I’m just looking at cheap options that teams are willing to part with that COULD pan out...

Mariota is Mitch in one year.

Hard, hard pass. They're like the same guy. Except Mariota is probably more injury prone.

Dalton is a safe play. He's a league average QB who can operate an offense with some parts in place to work with. No more, no less. I think that's an upgrade.

I think Rosen is the upside guy. Talk about a guy who has just gotten the shaft. I think there's still a good QB in there with him. If his psyche isn't too damaged, that is.

good points, think mariota is the x factor, probably cheap, and mobile. But does he pan out? agree on all the points. stafford is interesting, he can help you win, and elevate guys.....

The Lions would never trade Stafford within the division.

i do think mariota and mitch are similar. Very similar. I totally see your point. I gues my thought was they both possess the skill set the bears are looking for, neither has put it together, perhaps one would.
i agree dalton us an upgrade. his psyche has to be all fd up. drafted top ten, thrown away the next year, bench by a terrible team for a journeyman.

no i doubt they would, but id sure try.

I don't mind Rosen....but again we are talking about a guy with limited mobility that needs good protection. He's a pocket passer and not really an RPO guy.

I would be all about bringing Dalton in. Mitch would have a short leash which is exactly what's needed to give him a kick in the ass.

Dalton completed under 60% of his passes last season and nearly had a 1:1 TD to INT ratio.

I just don't see anything he brings to the table that makes me believe he makes the Bears a better team.

He also had a brand new head coach, a pretty bad team and was without his number 1 target. No one is saying Dalton is a great QB but he's functional and has been solid for most of his time in the NFL. He's a much better fallback option than Daniel.

I agree he's a better backup than Daniel...but we need a starter.

Dalton's best season was posting 4200 yards and 33 touchdowns with 20 picks on an 11 win team.

His average season looks something like 62% completion percentage with 3800 yard, 24 TDs and 14 picks.

We already have a guy that can give you those numbers in Mitch Trubisky.

I just don't see how Dalton makes the team better. And if he doesn't make them better....why bother?

Trubisky had 3200 yards in a season where he missed two games. Had he started all 16 he likely finishes north of 3700 yards.

That's basically what Dalton would give you.....why not aim higher?

Personally, at this point, my low threshold barometer regarding Bears QB's is "Could this guy hold Jay Cutler's jock?"

If the answer is a fairly certain "no," then I'm hoping the Bears move on or never buy in in the first place.

Mitch...He doesn't pass this test.

Dalton, I'm not sure.

I find this barometer telling for both of them.

Basically, if I was offered a straight Dalton/Mitch swap tomorrow with zero repercussion to cap/other players/whathaveyou...I would do it immediately because I've lost faith in Mitch being a reasonable QB (others disagree, that happens...I respect that). We can't do a straight swap though...so we take a chance on ol Mitchy poo again and brace for impact. So put me down for just signing a reasonable backup not named Chase Daniel.

The only real solution(s) to our biggest problem would be a miraculous turnaround from Mitch or us luckboxing with a mid-late round QB that explodes on the scene. *sighs heavily* Yeah...

Why though? Teams all around the league are finding guys that are above that....why should our expectations be any different?

I don't understand the mentality, from both fans and the team itself, of being content with having a less smelly turd.

I get that it feels completely useless and hopeless.....I 100% get that feeling. I just don't believe it actually is.

That's my bare minimum for a QB. I mean, if you can say dude can't hold Jay Cutler's jock, why haven't we moved on yet?

And that answer for Mitch is...money mostly...and circumstance. If we weren't so invested in Mitch, I would want the Bears to dump him yesterday. If there was a viable replacement this offseason that didn't impact the rest of the team, and was a lock cinch easy decision, we all would be pushing for it. All these QB's available are either so overpriced that we'd be broken in far too many other places or meh.

Well, I mean, if we're just conceding that "our O-line will suck forever" I suppose you have a point. I would like to think that it's not an impossibility that they could regain 2018 form and be rather decent.

Also, the line was a good deal worse in run blocking than pass blocking. We have two legitimately good O-lineman in Whitehair and Daniel. Leno used to be that... I have no idea WTF happened in 2019. I think there's reason for hope.

Plus, being able to move in the pocket takes a back seat to being able to see the field quickly and get rid of the ball fast/decisively. Generally speaking, mobile QB's are the most sacked QB's in football. Rodgers, Wilson, Watson, etc. Since they're constantly relying on their feet to extend/make plays. Where guys like Brady know they have to get rid of the ball.
