Bears/Bengals having trade discussions regarding Andy Dalton at NFL Combine

That's the buzz on social media, at the moment.

I would like this. It's legitimate competition to beat out Mitch in camp. Instead of just a rigged bull shit competition between Mitch and a guy like AJ McCarron. With whom I find intriguing.... but I highly doubt we would actually go with him week 1.

Dalton is an established vet who has had success and would present a clear upgrade to the level of QB play that Mitch provided last season. We would have a legit competition/controversy on our hands.

Even if the plan is to go with Mitch week 1? You have to think his leash is short. Nagy and Pace both need to win in 2020. Which means, a real contingency plan needs to be in place.

I say do it. Unless the price is steep. Which I doubt. Dalton is clearly on the way out.

Dalton's contract was considered somewhat large at the time. But now it's pretty reasonable so far as QB's go. He will earn 17 mil in 2020 before entering UFA.

I would rather trade for Foles. There are plenty of FA QBs we can get that are better and won’t cost draft picks and cap space. I seriously hope this is a worst case scenario. If this is their plan, this bears team is going to suck for a long time.

QB's take a few years to develop and right now is the time that they have their defensive core locked in.

They don't even have a 1st round pick to take a QB with. They need to win in 2020 or else the HC/GM will be fired.

In 2019 he threw for 4000 yards and had a 1.6% INT rate. And completed over 70% of his passes.

He’s completing passes at a higher efficiency and throwing less INT’s today per pass thrown than he did in 2015. When has he even been in clutch situations lately for you to judge that?

Unless Mitch makes a miraculous turnaround, the outlook is grim regarding actually hoisting a title in the next few-which is sad considering our team is decent...but it is what it is. If we sign any of these FA QB's, what we give up to do so will keep us a step behind the other good teams. That said, I don't really see any of the NFC teams as some kind of juggernaut, so that helps things...but envisioning us topping a team like KC? *shrugs* I wouldn't make that bet.

We're just screwed. We might make a playoff run...but hoist a title? I obviously want to be biased and think we can push through our (multiple) flaws, but if I was watching any other team doing what we're doing from the outside of the fanbase, I'd have us written off at this point as far as real contention.
