There’s no way that allowing the players to profit from their likeness won’t result in a thinly veiled bidding war for recruits. Whether you think this is a good idea depends on whether or not your school has lots of wealthy, rabid boosters, because they are the ones who will be shelling out the bucks to get all the top recruits.

The American Athletic Conference is about to get some California schools.

Meanwhile, welcome to the reformed PAC-10, Boise and BYU

It’s inevitable. It can’t be stopped. The NCAA will have to change.

PAC wouldn't kick out California schools. Don't be ridiculous.

How do you let professional players play with non-professionals?

They aren't being paid to play. They are paid for their likeness.

More than likely, the Oregon and Washington legislatures would just adopt similar laws.

If this chain of events leads to the demise of the NCAA governing body as it is currently organized then this will be a good thing!

The ironic thing about the NCAA hate is that the NCAA SAVED College Football when it was formed in 1906 at the suggestion of President Teddy Roosevelt. CFB was very dangerous, with many deaths, and the NCAA was formed to clean-up and save the game - which many wanted to ban.

No, they’ll be paid to sign and paid to play, the whole “paid for their likeness” thing is just a ruse.

And even if the other PAC states pass the same thing, they won’t be able to play against the other conferences that don’t. If they want to have their own West Coast semi-pro league, have at it.

Top HS players would be coming out West. Enjoy the leftovers!

I’m sure some won’t mind playing D-league ball with no chance of winning a National Championship.

And getting paid. And being on TV. Make no mistake, the ncaa becomes the bottom tier if this comes to pass.

And you think the networks are going to fall all over themselves to buy the rights to a conference that can only play each other, that can’t play for the championship? And all so a handful of star players can make some money?

No, the bottom tier P5 conference isn’t going to be more popular than the rest of the P5s, maybe the AAC will replace them.

Yes the networks will pay to broadcast the best college players.

And we won’t see much motivation to pay players to play exhibition games

There’s one problem

Already nobody on the west coast watches west coast football. Nobody on the east coast watches west coast football. And now they’re playing in meaningless games

They’ll pay to broadcast the best football, not just some good players, and they aren’t going to pay big money for games that viewers in the eastern time zones don’t watch now, much less ones in the future that will have no bearing on the championship.
