Were they losing at the time? I think I've made it pretty clear what my opinion is on when and where I would use any fake play. So regardless of how many ways you want to frame my answer will still be the same.

The military has thousands of spectacular people and a few dunces. One of the dunces tries to play himself off as an E9 and spends his days here having fun and insulting some. I have called him out and this is why he has no use for me. Go figure...

Getting some game time practice for a play where they won't be punished for being unsuccessful is not a bad idea. If that pays off later in the season when it could mean stealing a win then it's a really good idea.
