One day it will all make sense
Browns traded up to get Junkin at 5 lol. Id go with him
Did not realize this.Browns traded up to get Junkin at 5 lol. Id go with him
Man, it may be some recency bias, but I'll have a hard time not going with Devin Bush here... Steelers swapped 1sts & gave up a 2nd & 3rd to move up 10 spots in the 2019 draft to select Devin Bush. He had a pretty damn solid rookie year though before his controller became unplugged. He had a bad knee injury & was never the same. So for those that don't want to knock a guy for injuries... Make that what you will. He went to Seattle & then to Cleveland. From what I recall he had a bit of a resurgence in Cleveland, but landed himself in hot water over a physical altercation at a massage parlor just this offseason.
But Junkin... Only made it 2 seasons with the Browns before they parted ways. And only started a measly 7 games. He played 1 more season with the Cheifs, before he called it quits on his career.
Junkin was selected in the first round with the fifth overall pick in the 1987 NFL draft by the Cleveland Browns.[12] To acquire him, the Browns traded Chip Banks along with their first and second-round picks to the San Diego Chargers for their first and second-round picks.[13] In regards to the selection, head coach Marty Schottenheimer stated that scout Dom Anile had watched him play, and compared his playing style to "a mad dog in a meat market."[14] However, Anile saw him as a second-round talent despite the quote, and felt he was not worth the fifth overall selection, but Schottenheimer overruled his scouts and selected Junkin with that pick.[2] The Browns' archrival, the Pittsburgh Steelers, were surprised at the pick as they had expected the Browns to select Shane Conlan after trading up for the pick; the St. Louis Cardinals selection of Kelly Stouffer and the Buffalo Bills selection of Conlan eventually allowed the Steelers to select future Hall of Fame cornerback Rod Woodson, haunting the Browns for years.[15]
Their strongest contenders at this point:Ok - next position - I'm voting for a Raven. Period. I don't care if it's Ed Reed....Raven. LOL
Gilbert is your, likely, singular winner. However....Names to consider:
Browns:
Justin Gilbert... probably the winner here
Bengals:
Lewis Billups (2nd Rd - 1986)
Rickey Dixon (1st Rd - 5th overall - 1988)
Darqueze Dennard (1st Rd - 24th overall - 2014)
Ravens:
DeRon Jenkins (2nd Rd - 1996)
Steelers:
Ron Johnson (1st Rd - 22nd overall - 1978)
Deon Figures (1st Rd - 23rd overall - 1993)
Ricardo Colclough (2nd Rd - 2004)
Senquez Golson (2nd Rd - 2015)
Artie Burns (1st Rd - 25th overall - 2016)
But then there's the injury excuse. We never got to see him play at the NFL level.Gilbert is your, likely, singular winner. However....
I'm going to go....Senquez Golson.
Here me out, though. Yes, he was a 2nd round pick...but was an All-American who ended up playing 0 snaps AND because of his inability to play...the Steelers, the following year, would draft Artie Burns in the 1st round. He also was not good...so, in effect...Golson cost them both a 2nd AND a 1st round pick, both were busts.
Yep, what @thedddd said.Justin Gilbert is #1 and #2 is Artie "Gets" Burns.
Right, there is that discussion - I was just alluding to the fact that the 1st bad pick caused the 2nd pick, and in effect wasted multiple picks...that's some heavy duty lifting. But then there's the injury excuse. We never got to see him play at the NFL level.
Artie Burns had 1 ok year, and then was trash. Still somehow carved out a decent career (CHI & SEA).
