Browns can blame Mike Ford for their dismal performance today.

Josh Allen gets away with this shit all the time. How the hell is a D supposed to play him? He's bigger and faster than a bunch of tight ends, and he whoops it up when he runs over defenders. But, they can't really commit to hitting him because he's a QB. The NFL isn't about to change rules to stop protecting QBs, but they need to call penalties when QBs fake a slide.

the first doesn't look like a fake slide but I get the premise

It is horseshit.

QB's shouldn't get extra protection as a runner just because they are QB's. If you want to really protect QB's, they shouldn't try to run the ball. If they cross the LOS, they should be fair game like anyone else. Being able to fake slide and freeze a defense isn't fair at all.

Can't blame Allen he plays the system, and it works all the power to him. Since the NFL goes out of their way to protect the QB's this won't change.

Steelers run of above .500 is impressive, but the Bengals had a similar approach in the 90's...in so much that they would rattle off 2-3 wins to close out the year (finish 4-12 of course) and think "This is it, we were finally turning it around. Keep the status quo". And that approach led to an abysmal decade.

Tomlin has done some good things. Done some poor things. The bottom line, though, IMO, is outside of taking over for Cower and getting Ben - a generational QB - that team has been mediocre and isn't winning in the playoffs. For an organization that used to expect super bowls - keeping him around as long as they have has been....interesting.

QB's should not be allowed to slide to be protected.

With how mobile so many QB's are....it leaves the defender in a no-win situation. Much like the targeting rule at times. Defender does nothing wrong, but the offensive guy drops his head, or body, and suddenly a shoulder to the mid-section becomes a helmet to the head and a foul. What is a defender to do?

I'll keep saying it - the NFL/Football in general - is treating the symptom and not rooting out the cause. What they need to do is get to a point where if a guy is trying to make a legit form style tackle...contact anywhere is allowed. What they need to root out is when defenders tuck their arms/shoulders in like a missile and launch themselves. Any tackle attempted like that, regardless of where the contact is, IMO, should be flagged and if you do it twice, ejected. Those are the kinds of hits/approach that cause the issues (IMO). Reinforce more sound technique by not flagging hits that clearly were not intended to be a personal foul and flag those hits where clearly the defender is simply launching his whole body.

I digress though....

Maybe not. But the hesitation puts it in play - You certainly can't easily commit and that is an issue with a guy as big as Allen.
Yep - because if you commit to a hit - and even if you aim for his chest...if he dips down and you clip his head...flag.

The defense is in a lose-lose situation too often with QB's running.

It has been painful to say the least... But I don't want to say too much because everyone will just keep calling us spoiled
