Kick the can down the road. GMs who figure it out can do it forever. You just need to make sure you lay it off with good drafting so you can keep a good number of your 53 young and cheap.

I get that you can manipulate the cap by converting salary to bonus, adding void years, and other mechanisms to lessen your cap for a single year. But, with a fully guaranteed contract, all of that money will eventually count against the cap. And though the cap will continue to rise, so will the asking price for free agents. Sooner or later, pushing this much money to out years will have some limitations on roster construction. And void years only work if you continue to keep the player. The minute that player is gone, all of the rest goes to dead-cap.

If this is the game Cleveland wants to play, they have to go all-in for a SB within the next 2-3 seasons. At some point, they'll have to go bust and start over again with a rookie QB deal.

If you're good at drafting, you probably don't have to give 200 million guaranteed to a predator.

You can be good at drafting and still struggle at certain position groups. No idea who the Browns will be in the draft going forward.

Extend and restructure, Extend and restructure, Extend and restructure...the last couple years will look brutal like Matt Ryan's on roids but if they keep at it yes there will be future cap issues but that's with any highly paid QB. Only thing that matters is winning. If they don't-it will be looked at as an awful move. If they do-it's a great move. Simple as that.

You can be great at drafting but if you don't have a QB...none of it matters

Matters
1 competitive
2 contenders
3 playoffs
4 playoff advancement
5 conference championship

7 winning super bowl

Many not great QB's have accomplished numbers 6 and 7.
NO?
The objective remains winning and there are many factors involved.

AND YES...cowboys can't get past number four for well over 25 years now.
