Donte Whitner too should be cut, IMO. Great tackler, sup-par cover guy. We'll free up almost 4mil by cutting him.

Justin Smith's return timeline
February, 5, 2013 7:48AM ET
By Tim Kavanagh | ESPN.com

After sustaining a triceps injury in the San Francisco 49ers' win over the New England Patriots back on Dec. 16, Niners DL Justin Smith was clearly not playing at full capacity during the postseason run, and he has elected to undergo surgery this week in order to correct the problem. So when should he be expected to be back in action?

According to what a source has revealed to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area, Smith's rehabilitation will last approximately three months. That will push him past much of the early offseason program for San Francisco, but will have him ready to roll by the time training camp begins in late July.

There had been some rumors that Smith was pondering retirement, but given how quickly he's making moves to fix his arm, it would appear he's concerned with getting back on the field as quickly as possible.

If we signed Byrd and kept Goldson then I would cut Whitner. Goldson to SS and Byrd at FS would be heavenly.

Just cut Whitner period. Just didn't realize he was tht horrible n coverage. & he always seemed like a good tackler, but he missed so many when we needed them.

I agree about the comments about Seymour and Whitner.

Seymour would be a great addition, would love to add him to the team.

Whitner is making way too much money for what he brings to our team. Also, I dont think his strength(tackling, physical) is that needed on our team with our LB's as good as they are.

Ted Ginn?s father wants him out of San Francisco | ProFootballTalk

During Super Bowl week, Ted Ginn passed on a chance to air grievances about his lack of a role in the 49ers offense.

The man who shares his name wasn’t quite so magnanimous while speaking with Tim Warsinskey of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Ted Ginn Sr., a long time high school coach in the Cleveland area, said Monday that he thinks it is time for his son to move on from the 49ers.

“They don’t use him. He has to find a home,” Ginn Sr. said.

Ginn showed off his ability to make plays in the return game when he helped the 49ers comeback with a 32-yard punt return to set up a Frank Gore touchdown in the third quarter, but he continued to be a non-factor in the passing game. Despite injuries to Mario Manningham and Kyle Williams, Ginn caught just two balls all season and it’s pretty clear at this point that the Niners don’t see value to him as a receiver.

He’ll be a free agent this offseason, which offers him the chance to go to a team offering him at least a chance at a role as a wide receiver. That may not lead to much more than a role as a returner, but it’s something more than he’s likely to find with the 49ers next season.

Dashon Goldson - DB - 49ers

49ers FS Dashon Goldson "made it clear" he does not want the franchise tag for the second straight season.
"There's no security in it," Goldson said. "I've been in this league six years now, going on seven. I think I've done what I had to do to deserve a second contract, period." If the 49ers tag Goldson again in 2013, it would cost them $7.5 million to do so. Last offseason, Goldson was said to be seeking Eric Weddle money -- five years and $40 million. He's our No. 2 safety on the free agent market behind Buffalo's Jairus Byrd.

Kyle Williams - WR - 49ers

49ers WR Kyle Williams (torn left ACL) says his rehab is "slightly" ahead of schedule.
Williams tore his ACL in Week 12, but he said he will be ready for training camp at the latest. The 49ers' No. 4 receiver all season long, Williams will likely stay there in 2013, even though Randy Moss and Ted Ginn are free agents and Mario Manningham is likely on the chopping block. Williams is entering the final year of his rookie deal.

I would like Seymour too... if we have cap space which it seems like we will, it would be great to add him on a 2-3 year deal.

But he's not a true NT, and I would like Soap back too for the right money, so how would you then rotate between Seymour, Smith, Soap, and McDonald? Would would NOT start?

We also need to draft a NT high. Any prospects out there?

Hell yeah! You summed it up the best Calamity! Major props to you for making a random comment that has become a memorable quote. Last year Kyle Williams cheated me of a SB, this year Culliver was the culprit behind phuck ups that cheated us of a ring. Last year my avatar was a pic of Anthony Davis giving Williams a killer stare. I held on to that avatar for 12 months. Now the next upcoming 12 months, this signature you see now will be our reminder of who the culprit was...

If Seymour has juice in the tank then I play him over RayMac and give J Smith rest.

Where does PFF rank RayMac?
2.5 sacks is just downright horrible. Justin Smith had 3. We need 5 techniques BAD.

That's why I was begging for Ezekiel Ansah. He could play the 5tecnique for us. Unfortunately, it would take a major trade up to acquire him.

Absolutely. I was saying all offseason the Niners desperately needed depth on the DL. They simply got worn out.

Ok if DHB gets cut, here is the new Sick Plan:

Cut / trade:

Whitner, Goodwin, Haralson, Alex, Akers & maybe Rogers.

Sign:

Mike Wallace, Richard Seymour & DHB. Re-sign Sopoaga.

Draft:

1) Trade up for Chance Warmack; play him at C. 10-15 range. Don't let him go to the Rams.

At some point get Cornelius Washington as a rotational 3-4 DE. Maybe get one of the DEs from FSU as a situational pass-rusher.

Franchise Goldson one more time & move him to SS; either play Culliver or maybe a rookie at FS. I'm not married to this idea; maybe just sign a SS. They're not extremely hard to find.

There would be some other necessary moves, but these are the major ones. NT would still be an issue, but Seymour could come in & play NT on a lot of downs.

Okay, who would be our starting DBs if that were to happen? Also, not sure at this stage of his career that Seymour is able to play NT for us for 60 minutes. If we were to bring him in, it would be to rotate these three men (Seymour/RayMac/Justin) on every single down keeping everyone fresh and wear the opposing team down by the 4th quarter. Again, I have strong reservation about your idea of keeping Culliver at corner let alone, as a starting corner (cutting Rogers).
