42 yard PAT

Can someone please stop this crap already. It won't be long before the game is no longer football. What percentage of snaps are fumbled? Does that mean that snapping the ball needs to be done away with or changed? Nothing good happens when change is made solely for the benefit of making change.

I'm actually ok with this. Why should any scoring play be as easy as the current PAT? These are professional athletes. Scoring points should be difficult.

The current PAT is absolutely pointless. LOL, a pun.

So a 20 yard FG is worth 3 points (regular) but a 42 yard in only worth 1? Doesn't seem too fair to me. I get that PATs are pretty much a gimmie but why change what isn't broken?

A 20 yard field goal is a last desperate attempt to gain something after an 80 yard battle and not scoring the desired 6. A 20 yard feild goal is virtually automatic.
A PAT is also virtually automatic. move it back and it becomes a challenge again. Don't like it, go for 2.

I actually love this compared to eliminating the PAT.

I agree… There talking about eliminating kickoffs all together and I"m like WTF! Kickoffs are one of the most exciting play's in football and as it sits now because they moved the kickoff closer half the time it goes out of the end zone anyway…. They need to stop tinkering so dam much… This is tradition and football is the most popular sport for a reason… STOP TINKERING so dam much…. No reason for it.. I mean I'm open for little changes that can make the game better but not ridiculous changes that make no @#$^ing sense…

I agree with that … Better to back it up a bit than eliminate it all together… I think the PAT is tradition and on occasion they do get blocked or missed… It's just something worth keeping instead of just giving 7 points Auto for a TD …

I would think this would be less likely to happen than the proposal we heard that eliminates the extra point try entirely (except if a team goes for 2) simply because unlike eliminating the try, this would actually have a significant impact on Vegas.

Honestly, I don't know why anybody thinks a PAT needs to be "exciting" anyway. Just leave it alone or at the most, line up at the 5 yd line instead of the 2, although that might make it even easier.

Regarding PATs, didn't the XFL do something along the lines of not having kicks, but having a 1 point play from like the 2 yard line and a 2 point play from further back (the 10?). IIRC they later added a 3 point play from the 15 or something too.
