Isn't Bobby back as a special assistant to the GM or something like that?
He is.

And honestly, I am not certain is the Alou Academy was a product of Sabes or Evan’s.

Jordan Hicks says his goal is to make 30 starts this year. Also, said that Buster Posey gave him a vote of confidence as a starter.
Not sure why we wouldn’t. We aren’t competing for wins, so having a side project like Hicks builds interest in the team. And he signed with us specifically to be a starter. Not that that should absolutely handcuff us to him, but I think we owe it to him to seriously TRY to stick to that plan.

It’s facetious to say they aren’t competing for wins. You don’t sign Adames if you aren’t. They are competing for a wild card and with a lot of breaks can get there

He looked good before he hit the wall. Hopefully, he'll look good longer as his wall should be further toward the end of the season.

Adames was signed to put asses in seats first and foremost. I agree with the signing on multiple levels.

but hoping to maybe in the discussion for the 3rd WC spot is a sad position to be in. Especially when 2 stronger teams in our division are both fighting for the 2nd WC spot.

We are an also-ran, AT BEST. At least Posey is giving fans a reason to watch now, which FZ never did.

Of course we are. These aren't exhibition games.

Adames is not that guy dude. Winning puts asses in the seats much more effectively.

You are over-parsing this. With luck we might be the 2nd wild card too.

Uh, no, we are a wild card team AT BEST

Posey has done ok so far, big miss not signing an ace but that's not all on him.

With luck, we can go 162-0.

FZ signing Chapman and Snell was not a reason to watch?
Those were horrible Hail Mary signings. I will never be OK with signing QO players to essentially 1-year deals (for non stud team, at least). FZ knew his nuts were in a vice and swung wildly to save his ass.

They were still a reason to watch this past season. And let’s be honest nobody wants to play for the Giants. But with Posey now the new face of the team maybe things will change. I do wonder where all the players that Chapman talked to wanting to play for us went to. I wonder…

Having Chappy and Adames locked in long term is a move in the right direction Convincing players you have a chance to win will give your arguments more umph when selling to them. Signing more star names will generate more gravity. But generating those star names from your own system, ultimately, creates the most gravity, and we haven’t done that since Webb (and since Posey/Bum before him).

I have faith in Posey. I think we’re going to see a medium to big trade here. Posey is one of the most competitive MF’ers out there.

This is a start. I think Posey smelled something bad in that clubhouse. We forget these guys are human beings and not stats on the back of a baseball card. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that he went out and got competitive leaders like Adames and Verlander. We’re still short on talent, but I think Posey/ZM address that via trades and hope to take leaps with the young pitchers.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think we’ll compete with the Dodgers for the division, but I can’t think Posey is just gonna sit and be cool with no playoffs because he’s a 1% owner.

Posey is more than just an employee. But make no mistakes. Push come to shove, he is an employee at the end of the day.

He’s already signed the richest contract in Giants history in year one (and also Chapman’s deal if you believe Baggs). You’re more than welcome to be skeptical, and you may end up being right. I just think he’s still got the itch to win.

I don’t think we disagree.

He is an owner.
He wants to win.
He is likely given a LOT of rope at this point.
He answers to the Johnsons (and others, likely).
He will be “fired” if he shows the same ability level as FZ.

Do you think Posey would get the same amount of rope as FZ if the team flounders at the same level? Or does the ownership have less patience after going through so many years of mediocrity as FZ and cut him sooner? Or, does being a minority owner earn him even longer rope if the team plays at similar levels as FZ's teams?
