Do you think Posey would get the same amount of rope as FZ if the team flounders at the same level? Or does the ownership have less patience after going through so many years of mediocrity as FZ and cut him sooner? Or, does being a minority owner earn him even longer rope if the team plays at similar levels as FZ's teams?
I have no idea. But giving ANYONE 7 years of rope is just crazy. I said it during FZs run. If Posey sucks as much ass as FZ did, I will reluctantly say it during his run as well.

Whether Posey is wrong or right, and he may be way wrong like Samardzija contract wrong. He’s at least tried in year one. I don’t think anyone questions FZ’s intelligence…dude just stayed on the margins and never made improvements to the core. I mean in his entire time here, we have Eldridge and Webb’s extension. Think about that. Who gives a shit about Lamonte Wade Jr and Yaz when you don’t actually get difference makers?

Wade and Yaz are in the Taylor and Turner class. Great adds, ultimately, not core players on a championship team.

You need the Betts, the Ohtani, the Harper, the Posey, the Jeter…. FZ has no idea how to acquire THAT player.

The problem is every team that can afford it wants THAT player. Most players not only want to win but pad their numbers, our park doesn’t let that happen. FZ had his flaws and I’m glad he is gone but the park has to take some of the blame.

I respectfully disagree. The Dodgers were coming off the McCourt fiasco and took Betts and a shitty contract for some hopes and dreams and made shrewd move after shrewd move. Mookie had no choice but to go there via trade. We won 3 chips in this shitty park and Candlestick wasn’t a hitters dream. You have to have a plan. FZ never had one. They won on the margins and with big swings. FZ won on the margins only. Imhumbleo.

You’re not entirely wrong as there are comp disadvantages, but Giants, Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, Phil’s, (off the top of my head), could all win the way the dogs do if they wanted too and invested money into the team instead of side interests.

I would agree with that complaint if they were signing up every good FA pitcher in sight to sweetheart deals. But they weren’t, which tells me the argument is bunk.

LA and NY have inherent non-baseball advantages that no other location can compete with. That is just a fact, and unfortunately, there is no fix to that. LaBron wants to be a Laker because he wants to make movies. Aaron wants to be a Yankee because of the 100 year mystique. Iggy wanted to be a Warrior because he wanted to be a tech investor.

I’d agree with that if people still signed in LA to be movie stars. Besides Lebron, no other superstar was picking the Lakers. AD was traded there after Lebron. The Mets have always been also rans until they started spending money like they wanted to be there. You show you’ll be a force, people will recognize. Teams can spend if they want to…but not every ownership groups is built the same. Iggy and Durant wanted to be tech investors because Steph Curry was there. If it was Dray and Klay and nothing else, they move to the next team imhumbleo.

Sure. That is the “gravity” that I referred to earlier. The Lakers and Yankees have a natural gravity just because they are Yankees and Lakers. But when Betts and Kershaw are there, it catches a Freeman in its gravity well, and then Freeman adds to its mass. That pulls in a Shohei and a Yamamoto, which in turn attracts a Snell and a Sasaki and a Kim and a (etc etc etc). It feeds on itself.

Right, but none of that had to do with movies or stardom. It starts and ends with players and can I win. Why don’t the Angels and Mets have that same gravity? Kershaw was drafted and Betts was traded for. Neither “chose” LA because of the gravity. It was an accumulation of talent.

The Yanks and the Doggies have for 70 years had a constant stream of talent from the draft and some international signings even in the sixties. So they almost always have enough home grown talent to get to 90 wins without Free agency. That is where the gravity starts. Obviously with the Giants draft history it really is amazing that they have had as many winning seasons and the Ought ten-teens partly lucky 3 in 5. This ownership needs to invest in the farm especially the scouting and evaluation systems they have and improve quite a bit to get some gravity that they had for a short time in the ten-teens.

Accumulation of talent, I have no prob with. I hate that the Sox traded Betts there, but dem the breaks. But Ohtani is more than baseball. He was never going to sign with the Brewers or Pirates. He needs the global stage to advance his product, and that means LA or NY. He was already established in LA, so that meant the Angles or the doggies, and he already tasted the sour milk in Anaheim, and there was major gravity in the ravine.
