best line of the whole article

"This offense is too talented to have a mediocre pass game and a rock-bottom rushing attack."

If i said it once i said it a million time, this offense is loaded in the skill possitions and NO WAY should they be so average.

100% agree with this also

"this is neither the first bad offensive line nor even the most egregiously poor offensive line the Seahawks have within the last 10 seasons."

makes you think and connect dots.

Grubb is a college OC and he calls a game like a college OC. He needs to take a step up in quality asap. I was worry about his ability to "set up" a running game before the season started and that has played itself out just how i expected.

Whatever they do at OC, they have to upgrade the OL. im afraid theyll scapegoat grubb and continue the OL status quo.

Maybe he does need to be replaced, but slapping in a new OC without fixing the OL will get us nowhere.

with how bad college coaches teach Olineman the fact we also have a former college coach teaching OUR oline doesnt make me confident. Yes Huff did a fine job and made Washington one of the better Olines in college but it's still "College" level. It's been something like what 20 years now that college footballs quality of Olineman has dropped?

Some say Jeff Stoutland ( Eagles ) is the best Oline coach in the NFL, Hawks need to go out and steal him and give him Oline and AHC duties :) lol

Lets look at some stats for the oline.

Time till sack average the hawks are at 3.32 seconds, a full second behind the league leader who is the 49ers.

#6 in Blitz percentage against, 1 is least 32 is most. So the Hawks do not face many blitz packages.

sack/pressure% 21.3% making them 6th best in the league, shocker i know but Geno holds onto the ball to long.

Pressure% this state is a little different than the one above as it rates pressure not based on time. If the QB holds the ball 5 seconds and gets sacked it goes into this catagory. Hawks are ranked 30th at 39.5% so they drop from 6th best to almost the worst in the league all because of QB play OUCH!

PBWR ranked 26th at 54%

RBWR ranked 30th at 68%

YBC 1.37 ( yard before contact ) the hawks rank 18th best in the NFL. So not good but not as bad as many might think. the best in the NFL is at 2.49 and is the Ravens.

As we can see our oline by these stats stands out as sub par and in the low 20's in total ranking with some areas that are pretty good but more areas that are VERY bad. QB play could help a little making them closer to middle of the pack but they would never climb into that top 10.

Going into this season all i wanted was a middle of the pack Oline, thats all i was looking for and we couldn't even achieve that but lets not just point fingers at the players on the line and the coaches because Geno is not helping his oline at all as you can see by pressure% compared to sack/pressure% dropping from 6th best to 3rd worse. Geno has the 9th highest/longest pocket time ( holding onto the ball ) in the NFL for starting QB's behind a line that is not built to hold up that long. Mahomes, Rogers 24th, Mayfield 26th and lets just throw this guys stats into it ( Drew Lock 24th )

the OL pass blocking is fine, plenty of plays where geno has a comfortable pocket.
it has to be one of the worst run blocking OLs, linemen literally running into each other and completely whiffing on blocks. thats on the players, the talent inside is very poor and there are few teams any of them would get snaps on right now.

around 90% of the top 10 QB's in the NFL are in that 24th or lower Pocket time, so this stat holds weight. Some of the worst are top 10 in pocket time.

Grubb has some issues but the o-line is straight trash.

I say its coaching for the oline. We see them a handful of times in a game hold the pocket well but its the extra rushers or switches/stunts that gives them problems. Youth plays a part in this also but mostly coaching.

The OL has been trash for basically the entirety of john schneiders tenure. A new OC or OL coach wont change shit we have seen quite a few and not one has figured it out
Schneider is the common denominator and its probably time for him to go

I good player can look bad with insufficient or poor coaching and we HAVE SEEN this Oline group block WELL! Its just very inconsistent. Say you haven't seen this oline hold up on a handfull of plays the past 2+ weeks giving Geno all day to throw. If you do you will be lying. Once Bradford went down the Oline improved and I have seen a nice pocket often enough to show promise lately but the run blocking has been bad. This is the strange part because many of our guys were looked at as run blockers first. There is no doubt the Oline is very young if you remove Tomlinson and some needed growth is expected. Take out the POS Tomlinson and your most experienced Lineman are in only their 3rd year. As far as OLines go thats YOUNG! 3 years or less experience as olineman are babies. Drafting more will only mean you got more YOUNG guys that will need time to learn. RARELY do Tackles, Guards and centers come out of college now ready to go week 1. The College game is much different than it was just 10 years ago as far as oline maturation goes.

You dont have to draft OL, go sign the top one in free agency.
Go after the KC guard and give him whatever he wants.

Great post and YouTube analysis by the author of the video you linked.

It's no surprise that since Murphy has gotten healthy and had more playing time, that the defense has come together. He commanded double teams 24/7 in Texas and with Big Cat getting healthy, we're seeing how that translates on the field (in terms of allowing other guys to make sacks/plays). Murphy has been a HUGE reason the run D has stepped up now that we have linebackers who can actually identify and play the right gaps...

I said this earlier in the season and people shit on me lol.
well i said go sign middle of the pack players in FA. Dont break the bank but stop spending just dimes on 1 million 1 year rentals. You only get trash players that way. We just need solid high energy hard working guys. Someone like Tomlinson was NEVER going to work.

Agreed coaching is an issue but the FO has failed on levels of getting this o-line issue fixed.

I think that a big problem is that JS simply devalues interior linemen. He's said as much. Which is why we let Damien Lewis go, despite him being our best interior linemen. According to Schlereth he's playing at an All-Pro level in Carolina. Obviously he wasn't playing at that level for us but that's also probably because the guys around him weren't playing very well.

At some point he has to eat his pride an spend money/draft capital on the line.

Maybe. Honestly, if this season hasn't changed his thinking then he may be too far gone.
