Sam Darnold could end up being the Seahawks starting QB Next year. He’s a JS type and will be a FA

Darnold is going to get paid

He should after the season he has had. He has been pretty good this year and is a big reason the Vikings are 11-2. People hating on him should ( not you ) need to pay attention better. Is it who he is or not? Thats a bigger question But JUST LIKE Mayfield Darnold struggled early and played on some bad teams ( Jets and Panthers ). 28 TD and 10 INT's thats not bad almost 3 to 1. Little high on the INT's but he is making up for it with his over all play and those 28 TD's. Hey Geno got what his 14th TD today? Wonder what our record would be if Geno was at 28TD 10 INT's....

I think the most expensive QB the Seahawks would entertain having for 2025 is already on the team. They'll need to do something about the cap hit of the final year of his current deal, but I can see that happening. If Geno plays like he did yesterday for 3 of the final 4 games and we win the division, it becomes even more likely.

I mean... since Seattle has become a defensive juggernaut over the last month of play, IMO Geno really doesn't have to do much but continue his play of a good completion percentage and protecting the ball. Basically be a game manager.

There was a lot of stuff early in the season where because the defense sucked (and a lot was due to injuries, and figuring out what did/didn't work at ILB/S) Geno was asked to basically play lights out. And frankly I just don't think Geno is that guy. He's kind of reminds me of Hasselbeck. Solid, does some things right, some things wrong. Probably never going to take over a game for you (despite him having the most comebacks since 2022 - Hasselbeck if I recall correctly was also very good at that). A serviceable QB, but you need a solid defense/running game to bring it all together.

And VERY few teams get an opportunity to get a QB that can take over games and literally carry a team. Generally you want a serviceable QB. Yah they'll make some mistakes, sure... but they still keep you in a position to win. I really don't want to give Geno some $40M+ per year contract. Hell I don't want to give anyone a $20M+ contract lol... but the guy has done pretty well.

For a guy hucking the ball nearly 500 times, having a completion % of nearly 70% with one of the leagues worst run offenses (yesterday was great, but before it we were bottom 3 I believe in yards per attempt) and an OL that hasn't been 'stable' for years (in part due to injuries), is pretty damn good.

Anyway, should be interesting what happens with Geno. That all said, if we don't resign Coby Bryant I'm going to be pissed the F off. A LOT of us were saying to try him out as safety. The fact Carroll (a secondary specialist) didn't pick up on that is still baffling to me. Coby is meanwhile playing at nearly an all pro level. The guy just forces turnovers, and when I see #8 running up on a guy with green in front of him, I can actually lower my blood pressure.

We could do a lot worse at QB and pay more for it. Ask Dallas and Atlanta and probably some others. Kyler Murray isn't a guy who blows me away, and his cap # is $49M this year. Even Mahomes is having maybe his worst season since he was a rookie.

I wouldn't want us to have Geno in 2025 for $38M in cap space, but they could pull it off by trimming fat elsewhere. But if he is here, I am more than confident something will be worked out to level that out a bit.

I mean... since Seattle has become a defensive juggernaut over the last month of play, IMO Geno really doesn't have to do much but continue his play of a good completion percentage and protecting the ball. Basically be a game manager.

And this truth that everyone else playing better makes things easier on the QB is a reason why I can see moving on from Geno as easily as I can picture him still being here. If the FO and Mac feel we have a stable supporting cast that's still trending up, then maybe they go with an unproven and much cheaper QB option for next year. If we win 3 of the final 4 in shootouts where Geno is playing top 5 level as he's done in spurts over the past couple years, then maybe things change.

Anyone see how the Bills-Rams game ended? Salk is talking about this right now on 710, but Buffalo was completely moronic for running the ball at the GL with under a minute left and all TOs. They should have only been throwing to save all 3, but instead they tried a QB sneak, got stuffed, had to call a TO, and that forced them to kick onside after the TD and essentially lose the game w/o getting the ball back.

I'm liking this season. I don't think that we're going to do anything in the playoffs but dude's are balling out. I was of the 'screw Geno' camp, but after this season I'm thinking play the contract out. Yeah, he does stupid shit sometimes but he's 100% invested when he's on the field and you see the upside that this brings. DK needs to go though. I like what he brings as a #2 option but he just isn't a #1 guy and he's going to want #1 money for god knows what reason. That INT earlier in the season where he turned upfield for god knows what reason when the ball was literally coming out of Geno's hand is just something that shouldn't happen. Runs sloppy routes, won't extend his hands for the ball, ... It will be sad to see Lockett leave but I think that's a no-brainer at this point.

Anyway, kind of a rant but this probably my favorite Seahawks team in a while because you see a bit of turmoil but you see guys gutting it out every weekend.

You'll find all sorts of resistance around here about keeping Geno around, but if he does stay then I just can't think it will be letting it roll on current contract. If they commit to him for 2025, they will commit for at least another year after that and that means re-working the contract to bring down the '25 cap number from $38M. I don't think there was ever sincere intent on having him play at that number on that season when they signed him to this deal, so it's probably new deal or release. We'll see!

Yeah, he does stupid shit sometimes but he's 100% invested when he's on the field and you see the upside that this brings.

Like all but about 1 or 2 QBs in the entire league, Geno needs help to play at a high level. When the guys around him (such as the OL) are doing their part, he's a perfectly capable player. Not dynamic or elite, but he's in the "good enough" category for the most part. But like you say, his mistakes are going to come when he's asked to do too much and maybe play beyond his ability. You can say this about nearly 30 of the 32 starters in the league, and most of those guys have some degree of job security.

DK needs to go though. I like what he brings as a #2 option but he just isn't a #1 guy and he's going to want #1 money for god knows what reason. My only real beef with DK is he doesn't make the contested catches at rate I would expect from someone of his size & strength. I do think he's a WR1 but probably on the lower end of the scale, and I don't think we should give him another contract. He has unique athletic talent but isn't a super polished WR still at 6 years in the league, and the team would benefit more from putting that cap space to use in other areas. My opinion anyway.

Watch Burrow play just makes me jealous. His team sucks but my god this kid is so good. His vision is elite, his 6th sense for pressure is crazy and he throws to a spot and doesnt have to wait for the WR/RB/TE turn their head like it should be. He is on time and accurate. So jealous.

He's improved every year. Just hope he can stay healthy so they can fix what's wrong with their defense. I thought watching us play the last few seasons was rock bottom but we weren't this bad.

Burrow is awesome. 2nd best QB in the league. 3rd at worst.

In terms of what you just mentioned, he reminds me of a little more nimble version of Dan Marino… he would throw guys open all day long

Just a tad better than Mr. Drew Lock vs the Saints last week... I'm surprised no one has brought up his performance this week... 21 for 49 comp/att; 227 yards passing, 0 TD and 1 INT... 42.8% completion %...
