Looking at some potential free agent relievers that the Giants miiight be able to get on MiLB deals/low AAV deals with a trait in parentheses:
1. Zack Britton (66.7% GB rate)
2. Luke Jackson (9.4 K/9)
3. Archie Bradley (3.71 FIP)
4. Justin Wilson (9.8 K/9)
5. Will Harris (3.96 SO/W)
6. Josh James (13.3 K/9)
7. Robbie Eerlin (3.93 SO/W)

It's a mixture of recent injury or underperformance. Giants will likely hand out a bunch of deals with camp invites. If 1-2 relievers hit, it's pretty good value.

Just sayin....

Gary Sanchez is the top catcher remaining on the free agent market. His defensive metrics improved so much they were actually above average in 2022, yet his defensive rep is clearly impacting his market. Still only 29. Could be good buy-low candidate.
(Buster reviewing the list of backup catcher candidates):

"None of these guys are gonna help us. Screw it!"

"Hey Farhan, what did you say? 20 million for one year? Where's my pen?"

This doesn't directly affect the roster any longer but the drama is quite unique for hot stove season . . .

If you count the qualifying offer that Joc Pederson accepted, then Jackson is their seventh free agent to sign a major-league contract. Put another way, the Giants have tapped free agency to purchase 27 percent of their forecasted Opening Day roster for next season.

if it’s a strategic goal to stay under the CBT in order to take penalty-free runs at Shohei Ohtani and/or Juan Soto over the next two offseasons, then the Giants have spent close to all they could spend.

FZ is putting in work.

Assuming that the Giants break with an eight-man bullpen, and that two of their starting candidates (Alex Wood, Jakob Junis, perhaps Anthony DeSclafani) begin in swingman roles, the rest of the group should include Brebbia, Jackson, left-hander Scott Alexander, right-hander Camilo Doval, and Tyler and Taylor Rogers. Of that group, only Doval and Tyler Rogers can be optioned to the minors, and both pitchers have elevated themselves above the Triple-A shuttle.

Let that sink in:

Doval
Tyler
Taylor
Alexander
Jackson
Brebbia
Wood
Junis

I'd take that bullpen against any other.

It does look good but once assumption you make that I think will not happen is Jackson breaking with the team. I haven't heard updates, but if he is healthy and ready to go that is pretty phenomenal, to be pitching less than 12 months after TJ surgery.

I haven’t heard anything either, but I am assuming they are looking at the ASB as a potential debut for him.

I wouldn't expect him back until June

So who do you think, among those currently available, the Giants will use as a place holder for him? I'd go with Szapucki, at least as long as he is effective.
The Giants have also been talking to reliever Evan Marshall, who like Jackson is a year plus removed from surgery. Other teams are also on Marshall - he’s from Cupertino, though, and the Giants really like local guys a lot.

I'm not sure why the Giants need another reliever at this point. As you pointed out, the bullpen is pretty strong now. Is Marshall willing to be stashed at AAA in case of injury to someone else?

Hes another guy coming off injury. Skywalker won't be available until June. Marshall underwent TJ surgery Nov 2021, so he should be ready to go by ST.

Signing someone else at this point (without a corresponding trade) would require Junis or Szapucki probably getting DFA’d. So anyone we get needs to be a significant upgrade, imho.
