Peripheral numbers for him are elite. He’s a stud late inning guy. To recap giants I spoke into existence:
Hanigar
Conforto
Manaea
Pederson
Stripling
i whiffed on Bassitt and Correa
Not that we're keeping score...The more I think about it, the more I believe we will get:
Nimmo
Bassitt
Bogaerts
Nimmo takes over in CF, Yaz to RF
Bassitt slots into the #2/#3 SP role
Bogaerts plays 2023 at 3b, then moves back to SS in 2024.
Damn you Mays...Not that we're keeping score...
Seems discussion worthy, but it looks like we'd be gutting our prospects to get someone who is a solid player but IMHO is not likely to move the needle all that much for us.Athletic proposed trade:
Reynolds and SS Liover Peguero to Giants for LHP Kyle Harrison, OF Luis Matos, RHP Will Bednar and LHP Sam Long — John K.
Comments:
John K. says: The Pirates get the best left-handed pitching prospect in the game, a top-100 outfield prospect, a 2021 first-rounder whose brother is Pirates closer David Bednar, and a 27-year-old reliever.
Bowden’s take: I like your trade proposal from the Pirates’ perspective, but certainly not from the Giants’ side. In fact, I wouldn’t even do Kyle Harrison straight-up for Reynolds.
I’m not sure these two teams match up well in a Reynolds trade. The Giants have worked too hard to build their farm system and I can’t see them trading two or three of their top prospects for three years of control with Reynolds.
Biertempfel’s take: The notion of a Bednar family reunion on the North Shore is appealing for Pittsburgh fans, but this proposal feels kind of clunky and unworkable. I’m not sure Oneil Cruz’s future at shortstop is certain enough to deal away Liover Peguero just as he’s reaching the doorway of the majors.
The wild card here is Peguero. How good of a SS defensively is he, and how bad does our FO think we need a SS prospect considering the age of Brandon Crawford? Peguero has good speed (28/34 SB in AA last year), good size for a SS (6'2" and 200 lbs), with gap power. Will Wilson is the closest SS prospect we have, and he was pretty good at AA last year.Athletic proposed trade:

In some fairness, the only proven player in the proposed deal here is Reynolds. Prospects are rolls of the dice.Reynolds isnt a “face-of-the-franchise” level player, is he? I can’t imagine giving up a super-stud and a near-super-stud for a non-FotF player.
I get the sense that Luciano does not have a future at SS. I suspect he will be transitioned to 2B or OF within a season or 2.In some fairness, the only proven player in the proposed deal here is Reynolds. Prospects are rolls of the dice.
However, since we signed Conforto, Reynolds' prospective value to us has diminished. Again, take Harrison and Peguero out of the proposal, and IMHO we are closer to a deal.
Plus, I had forgotten about Luciano. While he is probably further away than next year, we aren't crying for a SS prospect either. So less need for Peguero as well.

The spanks are in our kitchen and going through our cabinets. At this point, it has to considered personal.
How so?Devers is off the table
Red Sox, Rafael Devers Avoid Arbitration
The Red Sox signed Rafael Devers to a one-year contract, avoiding arbitration. Read more at MLB Trade Rumors.www.mlbtraderumors.com
All true. My bad. I defiantly conflatulated FA and trade status. Carry on.How so?
This was a 1 year deal to avoid arbitration. Nothing more. Nothing less. He is still a FA next off season. This is not surprising in any way whatsoever, and has zero bearing on his trade status for this season.
Conforto's signing isn't official. Maybe there are issues with his physical as well.In some fairness, the only proven player in the proposed deal here is Reynolds. Prospects are rolls of the dice.

That money is in the pot. It isn't yours anymore. You have to look forward at the deal on the table (I know the deal is fictitious at this point). If it's a good deal to trade back for Reynolds, you do the deal. Pretend we're not trading for Brian Reynolds - pretend his name is John Doe, and he was never in our organization, and has no history with us. That's how you have to look at it.Conforto's signing isn't official. Maybe there are issues with his physical as well.
That being said, no to that trade idea. Its ugly. The Giants don't need to fix a mess made by trading Reynolds away as a prospect by trading the farm to get him back.
Still don't like it. That is giving up a lot to help this team maybe contend for a year or two. I know prospects are crap shoots but they sometimes work out. A team should only give them up if the return looks to be significant. I like Reynolds but I don't think he's worth the exchange that the article suggests. That money is in the pot. That's an acceptable basis to nix a deal.Still don't like it. That is giving up a lot to help this team maybe contend for a year or two. I know prospects are crap shoots but they sometimes work out. Thing is, we don't know that's why any of those three chose NY. My guess --When people are choosing NY over SF for tax and government reasons, you know something is very, very wrong with your state's tax and government structure.
