Given the Giants lack of activity so far re the catcher spot, it would appear they are "all in" on Bartelstein, and satisfied with Wynns.

There don't appear to be any needle movers left, and they can pick one up later on as needed.

I still wonder, if they make a run could they talk Posey out of retirement for half a season?
I understand there is an owner of the team who is completely against Posey playing again. Not sure what he has against Posey, but apparently he was the main driver in Posey retiring in the first place.

Really sad, after all that Posey did for the franchise. ROY, MVP, three rings. Even his commercials were hilarious.

If true, that has to be one of the dumbest decisions in the history of baseball (okay, maybe a slight exaggeration). How many franchises have a catcher of that caliber in their org? An example of where personal bias (of whatever sort) hurts the individual. Posey makes the Giants better.

It won't be for 2023, but keep an eye on this guy:

He's only 24 by Opening Day, hit to a .979 in college (NC State), and .761 last year in Norwalk (A+ level).

The rest of our minors look pretty thin at catcher:

(Scroll down to Organizational Batting and sort on 'Pos Summary', then scroll down to the catchers)
Just about all of the Giants' receiving prospect corps struggled in 2022 (Bart, Genoves, Bailey, Sugastey, Santana). Fortunately, both Bart and Bailey had strong 2nd halfs to give some reason for hope in this front.

It's fun to go where no thought has gone before.

I like to spark conversation, because I believe everyone has something of value to bring to the table.

LOL. Far be it from the owner to nanomanage his business (/s). Rules and protocols and procedures and chains of command and org charts mean absolutely nothing to the guy who ultimately make the decisions. If they don't like the laws they buy the politicians and judges they need to, or enough lawyers and media to make the opposition's case unwinnable. Owners do whatever they want anytime they want whenever they want to whomever they want for any reason they want or for no reason at all.

There's the answer to your $350mm question. I thought you would have known this being an attorney.
It’s the Johnson kid, not the old MAGA chud Johnson.

still doesn’t make sense; and the FO did the right thing by stopping the deal.

To be fair: not a complete lack of activity — they talked to Casali.

Uh oh, @tzill, did we miss out on one of the Chosen People?

"Carlos Javier Correa Oppenheimer Jr. (born September 22, 1994) is a Puerto Rican professional baseball shortstop who is a free agent. He has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Houston Astros, who selected him first overall in the 2012 MLB draft, and for the Minnesota Twins."
"Correa was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, to Carlos Correa Sr. and Sandybel Oppenheimer.[1]"

Looking at some potential free agent relievers that the Giants miiight be able to get on MiLB deals/low AAV deals with a trait in parentheses:
1. Zack Britton (66.7% GB rate)
2. Luke Jackson (9.4 K/9)
3. Archie Bradley (3.71 FIP)
4. Justin Wilson (9.8 K/9)
5. Will Harris (3.96 SO/W)
6. Josh James (13.3 K/9)
7. Robbie Eerlin (3.93 SO/W)

It's a mixture of recent injury or underperformance. Giants will likely hand out a bunch of deals with camp invites. If 1-2 relievers hit, it's pretty good value.

With the likely imminent rise of Cole Waites, our bullpen is in decent shape, IMHO. With the Rogerses reunited, hopefully there will be some positive synergy between the two. Add Doval, Brebbia, Alexander, et al, with Wood and Junis for long relief/spot starting, and we're not bad.

We should certainly look at these guys on your list, but I would be surprised if one of them could bump any of our existing crew. But relievers have a way of rising and falling quickly, so one never knows.

I think the idea is now to build depth, for the exact reason you mentioned, relievers are great one year and horrible the next. It is hard to find consistently good relievers. Here is the current depth in AAA:
Melvin Adon
Tanner Andrews
RJ Dabovich
Aaron Fletcher
Trevor Hildenberger
Mauricio Llovera
Sam Long
Joey Marciano
Kade McClure
Darien Nunez
Randy Rodriguez
Drew Strotman
Michael Stryffeler
Daniel Tillo
Cole Waites
Miguel Yajure

That is a lot! And I hope the Giants make room on the RiverCats' roster for these guys. They've earned a shot at AAA:
Clay Helvey
Blake Rivera
Ryan Walker

Here is to the author just guessing on the Giants' DH situation in 2023 and not having any real insight to their plans:

"Giants (Designated Hitter, 0.1 bWAR): The platooning and lineup-juggling that worked so well for San Francisco in 2021 backfired last year, as catcher was the only lineup position with a collective bWAR above the 1.2 mark. The DH spot was at the bottom of the list, and such frequent designated hitters as Tommy La Stella and Evan Longoria are already gone. Mitch Haniger and Michael Conforto figure to boost the DH spot when they’re not in the outfield, but by and large, the Giants will keep cycling multiple players through the DH role to keep everyone healthy."

LOL. The author probably thinks Jocko will be the regular CF, or maybe SS since we didn't sign Correa.
