Count yourself lucky SFGRTB. Growing up, I would hear all the time from Dodger fans about how they've won 5 titles since moving to LA and "when was the last time the Giants won it since the move?" I got tired of that worn line. The Dodgers still have more titles on the West Coast (which is why I don't want to see any more titles for the Dodgers in a long time) but they stay pretty quiet since the last title was in 1988 while the Giants have pulled out 3 in 5 years.

Growing up I had to deal with that too, but it was pretty easy to clap back with "and how many have you actually watched?"

Those conversation would usually devolved to Laker/Kobe talk, for which I had no legs to stand on.

My candidates for a dfa in the coming weeks: Joey Rickard, Christian Adames, Abiatal Avelino, Mike Gerber, Chris Shaw, Zach Green, Burch Smith, Wandy Peralta, Ricardo Pinto, Enderson Franco, Sam Selman, Tyler Anderson

Assuming Tony Watson does decide to test the open market, the Giants won't need to make any room on the 40 for the guys coming off the 60 day IL. However, FZ will want to play the waiver wire (a lot) and I assume a couple of guys will get purchased too. I expect at least 5 to 6 of the guys I mentioned getting dfa'd.

QOs must be offered by tomorrow. Bum will obviously get one. Smith might.

I think they should give Smith one too.

Worst case he's back on a 1-year, $18m deal? Cool, he's an awesome reliever and if they're bad they can trade him at the deadline.

Or he declines it and the Giants get a 2nd round pick.

I agree.... we're going nowhere for the foreseeable future so it's all about building a future roster. If WS wants to improve his worth he'll be going ballz out prior to the deadline. Trade him then for roster packing.

Downside he doesn't deliver, but we'd not be that much worse off than we are today. Roll the dice FZ!

Right. If he accepts it and he stinks, well it's only a 1 year deal so who cares. Upside is more prospect capital. It shouldn't be a question for a big budget team like the Giants.

I can't see any way they DON'T give Big Willie Style a QO.

It's funny how much more we know than the sports radio guys. They all can't figure out why we gave Will Smith a QO if we are rebuilding. No understanding of draft capital, or awareness that he's probably traded to a contender in July.

Fangraphs expects Bum to get about 4/$70m and Smith to get 3/$33m

MLB Trade Rumors expects Bum to get 4/$72m and Smith 3/$42m.

I wouldn't mind Bum back at all at that price.

MLB Trade Rumors predicted that both land with the Twins. They also had the Giants signing Marcell Ozuna to a 3 year, 45mm deal and Rick Porcello to a 1 year, 11mm deal.

I would disagree. Don't see how he could do anything beyond what Solano provides. I think he'd be fine, though, as a minor league contract, as insurance.

He won't get anything more than a minor league contract after playing 167 games between the majors and minors the last 3 years combined (including zero last year).

Before his injuries, he was a two-way player with power. It's very likely he'll never reach that again, but worth a shot on a minor league deal.

I'm surprised Devon Travis elected free agency. Since he has > 3 years, but < 5 years, of service time he COULD walk but he also walked away from his previous deal (because he had less than 5 years of service time). He inked a 2019 deal for $1.95M, and that wasn't going to go down in arb. It was a hell of a gamble. The smart move would have been to stay with the Jays unless/until released - that way he would have earned a "30-day" or "45 day" portion of $2M if he was released. If NOT released, he could have hoovered up ~ $2M from the jays in 2020 and maybe 2021.
