So with Foster, Chick Barron & Holton gone they have freed up just north of $15m... Yeehaw.

Barron = $5.25m
Chick = $5m
Foster = $4m
Holton = $825k

Looks like they restructured Boswells deal to free up more cap space. Haven’t seen the numbers yet.

Also Hargrave just got paid by the Eagles.

Looks like they restructured Boswell, Haden & McDonald to free up another $6m in space. Which puts them around $21m in space right now. But don't get excited about it. That's enough to tag Dupree & sign the rookie class, leaving about $1-2m in space.

Don't expect any moves in FA unless they free up more cash. Converting some of Ben's or Cam's base to a bonus would help.

The new CBA hurt in some ways, but helps in others...being able to restructure was the final pc Kahn needed and he went to work.

Job well done.

Really glad to see Hargrave cash in...$26 mil guaranteed. Could not have happened to a more deserving player.

Just read about Haden and glad they could do something with McDonald. The asking price for marginal talented TE's is through the roof right now.

As for the excitement, figured this to be the case as it is normal protocol for the Steelers to play the salary cap game.

Yep...good year to be a FA TE. Ebron should be the next to cash in if he hasn't already.

Good moves so far.

Sad that Javon is moving on, but that contract may result in a 3rd round Comp next year.

Foster retiring makes it a lot more likely they look OG in the 2nd round, IMO.

DL is still a very high priority. It could really be either. But with OG, you're likely getting your pick of the best players in the draft at their position.

Looks like Ben just saved them 20 million.

So in one day they've cleared 35 million in space.

I heard 15 mill in cap space not 35??? Can anyone confirm.

Call me crazy with the qb market what it is. And my hate for rudolph. Someone like Winston may not have a home.......not that he wants to sit but , learn and re take over post Ben....

According to those who really follow this cap in detail are saying Ben, and Nelson's restructure have created roughly $15 mil or so in cap space and the next phase of biz will be some RFA tenders, and then the draft.

No way we could foreseen all this activity a week ago.

Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger restructures contract to provide salary cap relief | TribLIVE.com

Roethlisberger, 38, had his $8.5 million base salary and $12.5 million roster bonus converted into a signing bonus that will be spread over the two years remaining on his contract. A restructure will provide $9.975 million in cap relief for 2020.

Roethlisberger signed a two-year extension last year, then played only six quarters before undergoing season-ending elbow surgery. The downside of the restructure is that Roethlisberger faces a salary cap hit of at least $40 million in 2021.

The Steelers also have restructured the contracts of cornerbacks Joe Haden and Steve Nelson, tight end Vance McDonald and kicker Chris Boswell by converting their salaries into signing bonuses. Those restructures have provided an approximate $10 million in cap relief. Counting roster moves made Monday, the Steelers have lopped $35 million off their salary cap for 2020.

Next offseason with Ben will be interesting.
