To me there was never a question as to if the Rangers were going into rebuild mode or not. Rebuilding will probably never be an option for JD unless we have 3 or 4 freakish career-ending injuries all close together to major contributors. The only thing about that is JD has never proven that he can build a WS championship caliber team without rebuilding to a certain degree.
If they were to rebuild, I'm sure Beltre would ask for a trade.

Cutting Fielder saved the Rangers about 9 million. I bet they reached some type of settlement.

I've wondered where this team would be today if:
1, Beltre had not been injured
2. Gomez had not been injured
3. Odor had not failed to live up to his contract
4. Dyson and pig pen had not failed and cost us, I believe , 21 games
5. Napoli failing all around.
6. AJ's injury
That's a lot of bad luck for a team to encounter that was built to contend. But all of those things are a huge factor in any game. Time to lick our wounds and move on and we will. With who is not known but most of us have been filling in the blanks.

We would have made the WC slot and not traded Darvish

Very astute thought. All about the business

yeap 11-11, 166.2 innings, 386 SO, 64 W and 1.32 WHIP makes him worth 10M and our best pitcher for 2017 and makes worthy of a QO of 18M. i guess i expect more from our best pitcher and an starter earning 18M

Ok you reeled me in again. Point is last years contract proved very cost effective for Cashner despite some posters objection. Ha. At 18 million this year, perhaps not but I think he rejects QO. I think it is worth the risk to make the qualifying offer. If you can't see this or my communication skills are just not connecting then I do not know what to say. Obviously the Rsngers are desperate for SP

We would have also had no idea what Gallo could be and we would have probably missed out on at least 20-25 of his HRS if not more. Not to mention Beltre would have been able to sell his reverse aging potion and retire from baseball because what happened with him was going to happen at his age.

Ha half full vs half empty. I think tribe would have beat us anyways so probably a blessing. But you never know perhaps we would have caught lightning in a bottle. Cards surely did

I wish our local media would she'd some light on this. They are too busy reporting the obvious I guess.

So you are assuming that we would have won the play-in game against the Yankees then?

I doubt any team offers him much more than the 10M he got from us so if I were offered a QO of 18M I would jump on it

Some team will give him a multi year deal after the season he had. I read somewhere where they thought he would get a deal close to 4 years for 70 million.

I like how he said it wasn't about finances, yet they didn't do this until a settlement was reached. lol

I'm not sure I understand your point... they obviously couldn't do this unless a settlement was reached.

Exactly. Finances were certainly involved because they couldn't have done it without a settlement being involved. It made no sense for him to state that finances had nothing to do with it.

He seems to be intimating by that part of his statement that they did it simply to gain a roster spot for the time period that Prince would have had to come back onto the roster. That was definitely why they chose to forego some of the insurance settlement, but they were never going to do this without reaching some kind of settlement. Therefore, fiances definitely had something to do with it.
