I can't see anyway a 1 year prove it deal wouldn't have been a great signing for the Cowboys unless he isn't healthy. No long term commitment. Not a bad guy like Hardy. Probably not much guaranteed $. Gregory is out 4 games. Even if we draft a rookie there will be a little learning curve. An extra veteran hanging around would be a good thing IMO.

That being said, I am totally fine on not signing Long. I was kind of indifferent on him. Just not sure how this was dodging a bullet.

Just to give you my viewpoint, I think Long is just too much of an injury concern to carry on the roster. His play the past few years has been substandard, and not worth taking 1st team reps away from other guys. I get the need for a stop gap measure with Gregory out the 1st 4 games, and that is the only reason I would even consider bringing Long in the fold. But I rather just give those reps to Russell, or some other rookie we are likely to draft. At the end of the day, my concern is that Long will inevitably get injured, and no matter how cheap he comes/came it would be a waste of time, and only slow the younger guys growth. Long just isn't a quality player anymore. Maybe Long will revive his career in N.E., but I'm not counting on it.

We need someone that can get to the QB or we are not going to have a good season even if we replace our whole secondary. I think we have the potential for some decent pass rushers, but also think we need to add another guy or two into the mix.

With the recent talk of Jones back to CB, I think we go Dline at #4. Probably Bosa, and that may be because Dallas thinks Ramsey is going to gone at #4. I think Ramsey goes to S.D.

I really don't even care which player or position we take at 4. There are so many good ones out there. In that spot you take the guy you think can be a superstar and you don't worry about need or anything else. You want the type of guy you can build a team around, not worry about fitting him into your current puzzle. I want to take the guy the team thinks fits that bill. Bosa has been the smart move for me all along, but I like Ramsey a lot too. Heck, with our system, I think Buckner could actually end up being the best move. Put him at 3 tech. Move Crawford to SDE and Lawrence to the weak side and bring Gregory in for the nickel. Now I think you have a pass rush.

In my opinion, Ramsey is the player with the highest upside in this draft, and would be BPA. I have thought about possible alignments with Crawford back at SDE as well. Buckner in the middle as a pass rushing DT is intriguing. I don't think the team will go in that direction, because I think Jerry views Crawford as the teams 3tech, and once he gets thoughts in his head that is just the way it is going be. Like with the teams philosophy on Safety. It drives me crazy. I would not mind being proven wrong.

I couldn't have said it better. I agree with this all 100%. Thats why we dodged a bullet. Most important part taking reps away from player who have the chance to grow. Seems I had this same argument with someone about 2 weeks ago.....Thinkit was UKCowboy. Not sure so forgive me UK if it was someone else.

Long is mot that guy, I wouldn't rather deal with Hardy for one more year at a cheaper price. We can also wait and see who gets cut.

We leave the 1st Round with either, Bosa (most likely pick), Ramsey (Guy I hope we get), or Jack (didn't want him until he got a couple of endorsements from guys I trust) would be a pretty good first day for us.

I'm actually hoping for Jack know and I hate drafting injured guys. Never say Never. It's a couple of local guys I follow hear who all think he has all pro potential plus he's expected to run a 4.4 meaning he can generally cover most backs and TE. impressive

So Turbin is gone and Dunbar is out looking around. What are we doing at RB??? McFadden played very well, but this is still the guy that is always hurt and is now another year older.

I think we without question draft a back in the 2nd or 3rd round. I would not be shocked if we gave up future picks to get back in the late first if Elliot is still there. I think this is a decent draft for backs though.

I don't think signing him would take away from Lawrence or Gregory's(post suspension) development, because Rod likes to rotate his DL anyway. He's also a high character guy, and adding him might be enough of an upgrade that Jerry doesn't give in and resign that piece of shit Hardy

Long, 30, was in the final year of his five-year, $60.31 million contract and was set to make a base salary of $9.75 million for the 2016 season when he was released.

In 2015, Long appeared in 12 games and recorded 19 tackles, three sacks, and a forced fumble for the Rams. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 98 edge defender out of 110 qualifying players.

He is not going to run a 4.4 and straight line speed alone tells nothing of your ability to cover TEs and RBs. But yes, I agree he would be a great fit for us and would be an incredible coverage LB IMO
