Don't know. He certainly isn't the player that left here a couple years ago. That's why I was bringing it up as a cheaper rotation type guy. Not really saying do it, more take a look. Ideally we get younger, but if our choice is Hayden or Hatcher I'm taking Hatcher...
Figured you were just wondering, and I see the low money. I wasn't questioning the idea, I just don't know what he has left.

Good on "no to RG3". What I found odd was that RG3 was said not to be a fit for our system, while the same talking heads said JFF was. HUH?

I'm good with Chase or Colt as the backup, as long as we still go after a QB in the first 3 rounds. I'd expect to take a look at Nick Foles too.

Always been a big Foles guy. Tough to figure out what happened to the guy. His numbers last year were dreadful.
You get the feeling he can only succeed in a certain environment. With our line, it would be sweet to have a tall passer back there ..if he can get it to click.

Me too. I always said he was better than Vick and that he should be playing, but then also said he was NOT the great player he was in 3/4's of a season. The situation is eerily similar to Cousins for me. I think both are decent QBs that can start for an NFL team but will never be great - so don't pay them as such. Both had that incredible short season that set the expectations higher than they should be and higher than they will ever achieve again in their careers.

I think he definitely has enough left to be a good rotation guy with position flexibility. To me the question is does he have enough to be an every down player and more importantly does HE think he can still be an every down player and expect to be paid as such. It's tough to go from mega contract to a paltry $3M per year for these guys on the down swing. But I was always a huge fan of Hatcher. I picked him every season on the "Who will break out this year threads". Of course it took about 4 years before I was actually right!!!

Philadelphia dumpster fire

I just don't get how people keep paying the Eagles compensation to bail them out of stupid ideas. :L

This reminds me though, there is a "worst owner" thread on the NFL board. I think I know who should be in contention.

The d front is full of rotation guys, so if he'd except that roll he'll fit.

Anyone find out if the Cowboys have reached out to anyone during this period yet? Seems awfully quiet at a time that we should be picking up the phone. I know Jerrah and son have publically stated they will not be major players in FA, but that should not keep them from trying to fix areas of need. QB is the one spot I am certain we are hunting down right now, but I haven't seen anything yet.

I beginning to think they're gun shy on FA QB's and will roll with Moore and a rookie. Not the best idea IMO.

I doubt they are players in QB FA. With the amount of money these guys are getting that's probably a good idea. We don't really have room to be taking on $8M for a solid backup, and that's what it is gonna cost. And will end up being someone like Cassell who is here to cash a check.

Doubt we need to go 8 mil for a decent backup. Just a couple years ago we grabbed Orton for 5 mil a year. And he was the top FA QB I believe at that time. He could have landed a low profile starter gig that could have paid him more. I think the same could be done this year. Just need to find the right fit - and a guy that loves to play the game. No large ego, no 'pay me' attitude, just a dude that can manage the game and grind out victories.

My hope for a backup QB is a teacher. Someone that still loves the game and wants to be talking to whomever we draft (hehe) about what's going on out there. Ideal scenario would be to get PManning in here as a backup on a deal. Then if he plays, we know he can at least recognize what is going on even if he isn't throwing it deep. When he isn't playing, you know the competitive fire is still there and he could be sharing two decades of knowlege with the young kid. Matt Hasselbeck is another taht I think is free and would be a good teacher, knowing he isn't a day 1 starter anymore but wants to be around the game.

Amari Cooper dominates Vernon Hargreaves III

Wide receiver Amari Cooper is now Alabama's career leader in touchdown catches with 20.

TUSCALOOSA -- The much-anticipated matchup between Alabama receiver Amari Cooper and Florida cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III deteriorated into another field day for the Crimson Tide's junior wide receiver Saturday in a 42-21 home win for Alabama.

Cooper finished with his most prolific performance of the season -- 10 catches, 201 yards and three touchdowns -- to further establish himself as the top receiver in college football. Not all that production came against Hargreaves, and Cooper beat a safety from the slot position for his biggest catch of all, a 79-yard touchdown on a deep pass from quarterback Blake Sims. But more than enough of Cooper's day was spent on Hargreaves to leave little doubt as to which player came out on top.

Hargreaves, a sophomore, entered the game with more pass breakups (five) than catches allowed (two, for 16 yards). Yet, Cooper's day could have been even bigger than it was. He had a 33-yard catch on Hargreaves wiped out by an illegal formation penalty in the second half, something UA coach Nick Saban lamented in his postgame remarks. On Alabama's next drive, Cooper caught a would-be 17-yard touchdown pass that was called back as Cooper was called for offensive pass interference for pushing off on Hargreaves. Cooper admitted after the game that the flag was a good call.

"He's a great player. He's fast, he's quick. He plays smart, and is very instinctive," Cooper said of Hargreaves. "I just took what I watched on film and tried to take advantage of it."

Asked exactly what he saw on film that was so exploitable, Cooper turned coy.

"I don't want to share that," he said.

Cooper entered the game leading the NCAA in receptions with 33. He now has 43 catches on the year -- just two fewer than he made all of last season -- for 655 yards and five touchdowns. Saban suggested his team wasn't about to back down from the challenge Hargreaves presented.

"We kind of figured (UF coach) Will (Muschamp) would match (Hargreaves) up on Coop," Saban said. "But we were going to try to get the ball to Coop."

Cooper broke Alabama's school record for touchdown catches in a career, now with 20, and added to his school-record sixth consecutive game of 100 receiving yards or more. At his current pace, Cooper will reach 1,000 receiving yards for the season in Alabama's home game against Texas A&M on Oct. 18, with five regular-season games remaining.

he'll be 34 and 10 years in the league...much cheaper options without the mileage for a rotation player
Don't disagree on the age, but again we really don't know what $'s he wants yet to say what's cheaper. Also, he was really only a FT player for a few of those seasons with Dallas, so he may not have quite as many snaps in his career as most guys his age.
