Report: Cowboys done with free agent Greg Hardy after one season
By Ryan Wilson |

February 22, 2016 2:25 pm ET

Greg Hardy made plenty of news during his first season with the Cowboys, and almost always for the wrong reasons. And now, according to CBS Radio's 105.3 the Fan, the team will part ways with the mercurial pass rusher.

Hardy signed a one-year deal with the Cowboys last March and as recently as Oct. 27, executive vice president Stephen Jones said the team "absolutely" wanted to give Hardy a contract extension.

This came after Hardy, who served a four-game suspension for a domestic-violence incident to start the season, said he hoped to come out "guns blazing" in his return to the field, made some weird comments about Tom Brady's wife, explained how he planned to stop quarterback Eli Manning -- "Hit him in the mouth" -- and got into a sideline shouting match with teammate Dez Bryant after shoving a Cowboys assistant coach.

By November, owner and general manager Jerry Jones had backed off those extension remarks, and in early January, the Dallas Morning News reported that, "a few teammates who had supported Hardy early began to sour on him late in the season, in part because his perpetual tardiness for team meetings never resulted in a reduction of playing time."

So it wasn't surprising when coach Jason Garrett declined to talk about Hardy's future in Dallas, saying he didn't “want to get into any personnel decisions right now.”

For now, it looks like the Cowboys will head into the 2016 season without two young pass rushers; in addition to Hardy, 2015 second-round pick Randy Gregory will face a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. Gregory, a top-10 talent, wasn't drafted until the 60th pick because of off-field issues, including a failed drug test at last year's combine.

“This is a disappointment," Stephen Jones said of Gregory's supsension. "We have been clear with Randy about what his responsibilities are and what is expected of him. This is something that he is going to have to work through and correct.”

Hopefully he is gone!

Could Antonio still help if he had another bounce back season and was cheap enough?

Jets end Antonio Cromartie's second stint with team after just one season

By Jared Dubin | Staff Writer

Antonio Cromartie's time in New York is done -- again. (USATSI)

The New York Jets announced on Monday that they've released cornerback Antonio Cromartie. Cromartie, who left the Jets for the Arizona Cardinals prior to the 2014 season, signed a four-year, $32 million contract to return the team last offseason. He'd previously been with the Jets from 2010 to 2013.

Everything you need to know about who's getting tagged

Cromartie's deal was part of general manager Mike Maccagnan's big spending spree to give head coach Todd Bowles the pieces he needed to play the aggressive type of defense that typified his time as the defensive coordinator of the Arizona Cardinals. The Jets also signed Darrelle Revis, Buster Skrine, and Marcus Gilchrist as part of the overhaul of their defensive backfield.

Cromartie proceeded to struggle throughout much of the first year of that four-year contract. According to tracking from Pro Football Focus, he allowed opposing quarterbacks to complete 42 passes for 790 yards and 7 touchdowns against him this season, yielding a passer rating of 112.0. That rating ranked 70th among the 81 corners that played at least 50 percent of their team's snaps this season.

Given the fact that Cromartie had no more guaranteed money left on his contract but the Jets could save $8 million against this year's cap by releasing him, it shouldn't come as all that big a surprise that they did so, especially considering his advancing age (he'll be 32 by the start of next season). Put all that together with his declining play, and this was a relatively expected move.

Still, this is basically the same scenario that led Cromartie to Arizona for the 2014 season. He'd struggled in his last year with the Jets and Arizona picked him up on a cheap, one-year deal. He excelled there, then got another contract with New York. Because he's shown the ability to bounce back from a poor season -- and has a fairly decent track record overall -- it would not be surprising to see someone give him a shot on a similar, prove-it type of deal next season.

Word is Ware may be cut if he doesn't take a paycut. Would anyone else be happy to offer him a 1yr/$8M contract?

There's a lot of guys that may be FA's or already are that would look real good in Dallas. Mario Williams, Chris Long, Ware

I'm good with checking these guys out. Just don't want to go back into cap hell to sign any of them. Jerry tends to overpay these FAs. Glad he did not do more than one year with Hardy.

LOL...That would be pretty funny. Gregory goes to his locker after his suspension and see a different number hanging there...

There is no chance of a one year deal happening unless Ware decides he only wants to play one more year. This is his last contract. He isn't going to take x amount this year and then look for another contract next year. He is in a great spot right now as the last thing anyone remembers was him being great in a big spot. He also is going to get more than $8M per year.

Not happy you left for the money now Demarco? Doubt this has any chance for him or the Boys?

Report: DeMarco Murray 'unhappy' in Philly, Dallas trade possible?

Murray still isn't happy in Philly. (USATSI)

2014 and 2015 were night and day for DeMarco Murray, with the running back moving from the Cowboys to the Eagles and finding far less success with his new team.

Murray was very unhappy last season, reportedly going to owner Jeffrey Lurie and complaining about coach Chip Kelly and the touch distribution. Despite Kelly being fired and Doug Pederson replacing him, Murray reportedly still isn't happy.

And Ian Rappoport of the NFL Network reports a trade is a possibility, perhaps even back to Dallas.

It's a nice notion. Murray made a mistake and signed with the Eagles and wasn't a fit. Dallas made a mistake by not keeping him around and it cost them when the run game struggled this year. Joseph Randle and Darren McFadden weren't going to replace Murray.

The problem here is the trade. Murray's got a lot of money left on his contract. Philly would take a $13 million dead money hit on the cap if they trade him. Dallas would have to pay Murray $7 million this season. Two teams in the same division would have to agree on a trade.

A lot has to happen. Including Pederson agreeing to let Murray walk.

Interesting on that note is Pederson has concern about the salary cap but perhaps more concern about the best thing for his roster this season. Also: apparently the coach has final say in Philly. This feels familiar.

It's late February in the NFL so nothing is off-limits. Free agency is creeping up and things can get pretty hairy quickly. It wouldn't be shocking to see Murray on a different team. But with all that needs to happen, it doesn't feel like a likely outcome.

He made his bed...no way the Eagles take a $13 million hickey to let Murray play for their rival unless they get a lot in return.. like a #1 pick. Not gonna happen

I don't give up anything for Murray. Not because I'm bitter or don't think he can be good, but because I'm not paying him full value and also giving up something else to get him. If he is cut I'll gladly take him back. If he restructures so his contract is a bargain compared to his talent level then sure I'll give up something for him, but every player has a point where their benefit to the team and their cost are equal. Murray is either there or on the wrong side of that. So why give up an asset to bring him in?

Exactly. I find it funny with all the hate when everyone of us would have made the same decision had we been in his shoes.

I don't hate Murray, don't blame him for taking $8 million a year(I blame the Cowboys...a $6 million offer early would have done it), but I certainly don't want to give up a draft pick to take over the contract that he signed with the Eagles....and I don't think they would trade him to us unless it was way in their favor
