The New York Yankees have no plans to pursue free agent pitchers Max Scherzer, Jon Lester or James Shields, nor third baseman Pablo Sandoval, reports the New York Daily News.

All four players are considered to be among the top players on the market and all four have been linked to the Yankees as a possible landing spot, but the Daily News reports that New York is instead focused on re-signing pitcher Brandon McCarthy and third baseman Chase Headley.

Not sure what the Yankees philosophy is these days. But apparently, making a big splash is no longer in their vocabulary.

This from Ken Rosenthal:

The Phillies are willing to move any player on their roster, but their most popular target in early trade discussions might surprise you.

According to major-league sources, it's right fielder Marlon Byrd.

While Byrd is 37, he hit 25 home runs last season, more than any free-agent outfielder but Nelson Cruz. He is under contract for just $8 million next season, but by making 463 plate appearances, he also can vest his $8 million option for 2016.

I am with you all as you know on how well these predictions turn out but of the top 30 free agents there were three predicted to sign with the Rangers and oddly two are from the Pirates. They were Russell Martin (4/60), Francisco Liriano (3/37.5) and Noki Aori (3/24). I like Martin but 4 years seems a little long to me.

Martin and Liriano got a QO. I don't think I'd sign them both while giving up 2 picks. On MLBTR they have Mike Morse and Torii Hunter coming to the Rangers.

So what's the rangers offseason wish list?

JD says his list starts with starting pitching and then a backup catcher. Maybe a LF or DH as well, but that seemed much lower down in his priorities than the other two.

They will end up with one them, probably Shields. Panda probably goes to BoSox and Lester likely ends up back in Boston too

Well considering they need starting pitching 3-5 I would say pitching, pitching and pitching

I get the impression Panda will resign with the Giants. But hey, money talks and he's gonna get interest from several teams.

Definitely agree Mr Lester will head back to Boston.

I think Lester goes to the Cubs.

How come?

He was drafted by them, spent almost 9 years on their ML roster and seemed to really embrace the Red Sox nation. He pretty much said he wanted to go back at seasons end. At least that's my recollection of it all.

Theo Epstein. The Cubs are said to have interest. I guess it depends on who pays him more.

I don't discount the Cubs - several other teams really - since it's called FA for a reason.

But I do think Lester seems to be loyal toward the Sox and calls it home. That's what normally happens when you stay with one organization for about 12/13 years.

This kind of hubba-hubba is what makes this time of year fun and interesting though.

Lester has already said it won't be for money when he signs his next contract which leads me to believe he is headed back to Boston where he was happy and comfortable

In other news, water is wet.

I never ever watch those idiots, but for some reason stopped channel flipping on that program this morning because they were speaking on the Cowboys. Figured out quick why I don't watch, their babbling is aggravating as shit
