Thinking about it what might happen more logically is Beltre moves to 1b and Prince to DH and backup 1b ... and Choo gets moved. That makes room for Gallo. Happens prior to 2016.

I could see this happening, and it leaves Choo out in the cold. Question is, at what point does the inverse relationship between Beltre's defensive skill set decline, and Gallo's development intersect to make such a move viable?

We are about to find out. Guess we will have to stay tuned.

Am betting Beltre's defensive decline will not be what we saw from MY at the same point and a move across the diamond for him will happen at the right time without all the dramatics that went on when MY made that move.

If they trade Choo this July Gallo could come up and play RF for the rest of the year and then the switch could be made to 3B to begin 2016. Mazara might be ready by the beginning of 2016 or we could sign someone on a one year deal. Or best case Smolinski and Rua both prove they deserve to play in the OF.

I think Beltre would be more receptive to a move to first base than full time DH.

I'm still not betting on Gallo coming up till
September.

Man, I think you are wrong about that. I think he is going to put together a fantastic 2-3 month start in AA and maybe AAA. I thought that before, but after hearing Levine say he thought Gallo would be contributing at some point in 2015 I am even more convinced. I believe they see that he has once again made some significant improvements in his hitting over the offseason.

There are two things that have to happen for Gallo to arrive before September: that, and some pretty shitty performances from the players already here.

It might only take one bad performance or one injury. Or one trade.

I'm inclined to believe it would be closer to all 3 of those combined taking place to get him up here. They have a plan with Gallo, to rush it means things are not good for the Rangers.

I believe they have a plan for him to arrive at some point this season as long as he performs the way they expect him to.

I get the feeling Gallo's development takes precedence over all other things. They DO NOT want to mess up this kid's development, and for good reason.

I like that option too.

Rather than respond to some of these posts individually:

During yesterdays game, it was pointed out Tepesch has the 2nd most starts for our Rangers over the past 2 seasons. It shocked TAG, and he had a pretty funny line, "I watched most the games, and didn't realize this."

Hamel's has averaged 207 innings over the past 8 seasons, and has over 1800 total for his 9 ML seasons. That's a lot of wear & tear.

Regarding AB: if his body is holding up and he's producing, plus the Rangers are doing OK but certainly don't appear to be headed anywhere, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see us move him at the trade deadline. Hate to think this. But, he could be a final piece for a team thinking "if we only had one more guy" to play some decent D, DH/PH, have some deep threat, has a relatively team friendly contract, and is a great guy on/off the field. Besides, although I think AB wants to stay here, he'd also like to play for a title before his days are over.
Don't think this can be ignored.

I strongly suspect the Rangers are going to be very conservative in their approach to promoting minor league talent; especially Gallo. Although JG certainly appears to be making terrific strides, I believe the FO believes it's much better to bring him up a month too late, than one too early; if you know what I mean? And I do not believe they'll bring him up and put him in an awkward position of having to learn a new spot - i.e. COF - without him first getting extensive time in the minors doing so.

I might be tempted to do that with a Boras client, but the Rangers didn't do that with Elvis a few years ago.

It really makes Boras sound like an idiot. "Do the Cubs not want to win?" Umm, Scotty, they have him under control until 2020, and 2021 if they wait 10 days later.
