Oh? And how much experience do you have with Japanese culture?

While we've certainly heard things about the Japanese culture and Japanese baseball players over the years it's very safe to that Yu Darvish does not fit that mold at all and a lot of it probably has to do with his parents spending so much time in the US. Even baseball wise his father made sure his son didn't conform to the same way the Japanese leagues and teams handle their pitcher by completely overusing arms.

So ya I understand where Scotsman is coming from to a degree but Darvish is not a part of that mold fully.

I thought it was Koji as well who wasn't really fond of Darvish. Could it have been Yoshi? But from what I recall he and Darvish got along just fine.

Koji didn't much care for Texas at all according to the rumors. He lived in a hotel room and was depressed because he loved Baltimore and never wanted to leave the area. Sucks that he got left off the WS roster because history would be a lot different if he had pitched.

He got left off of the WS roster because of how awful he was in the ALDS and ALCS that year. In 3 games he pitched 1.1 innings and gave up 3 HRs and 5 earned runs.

He was still a better option than Darren Oliver and Scott Feldman.

How do you figure? Koji was left off the roster for a reason. He was awful down the stretch and throughout the playoffs.

Scott Feldman saved our asses in game 1 of the ALDS when the Rays and Matt Moore made us and CJ their bitch. Without him our bullpen would've been toast.

Neither of them pitched as bad as Koji in the postseason that year. The Koji of 2012 would have been far superior to them, but the Koji that we had here in 2011 wasn't.

I was at that game. Quite possibly the most lopsided loss I've ever seen in person. CJ had absolutely zero that day.

Koji was indeed awful but didn't Baltimore pretty much run him and his arm to the ground that season before coming here? That may have been a big contributing factor as to why he was bad as well.

Yes. And Buck's been known to do this on more than one occasion. Overall, think he is a terrific manager though.

3 bad appearances doesn't negate the work he showed prior.

I'm actually shocked that I'm alone here. He proved the next year and in Boston that he should've been on the roster.

That's not how it works, man. You can't say "Koji was lights out in 2012, therefore he should have pitched in the 2011 World Series." Managers can only go by what is immediately in front of them, and at the time Koji was not the right choice. You ride the hot hand. And as much as it deeply pains me to have to think about the 2011 postseason, the Rangers did just fine without Koji.

My memory is a bit fuzzy but it seems that it was not just 3 appearances. It seemed that every one of his outings if he just wasn't awful he was really shaky and with him not having a history with the team I didn't think the team probably wanted to risk him being on the post season roster.

I would have gone with him over old ass Oliver even after the homers. It's one of the things I am still bugged about from that WS.

Koji had a terrible August that year and actually had a pretty good Sept. After his overall bad time here in those 2 months plus his absolutely awful ALDS and ALCS they had no choice but to keep him off of the WS roster. Maybe his arm was mush after being overused that year, but whatever the reason was he was absolutely awful for us in 2011.
