I will hold off judgment about the trade until I see what we can flip him for in July if indeed we are sellers in July.

What if they extend him and don't try and move him?

MONDAY, 4:04pm: Gallardo has been informed that he’s been dealt to Texas, SB Nation’s Chris Cotillo was first to tweet.

Any word on who we're sending back?

We're giving up Sardinas, Knebel, and Diplan. I can definitely live with that!

That's certainly way less than I had said, I can live with that

Knebel is a reliever that has elbow issues, wasn't too big on him when acquired in the Soria deal

Sardi I really only liked as a light hitting UTIL guy, always saw him as a piece to a trade otherwise

Diplan was ranked like 20th in our system, I'm good with that

See how things shake out, if not competitive and he pitches decent try and recoup some prospects from a contender, could work for sure

That depends on how he pitches and how our young pitchers progress. I certainly wouldn't want to extend him until I see how he does in the AL.

Fraley seems to think the same.

Short-term commitment. Gallardo is signed for this season at $13 million. He can become a free agent after the season.

That gives Gallardo added incentive to have a productive season. The Rangers could try to re-sign him if they like what they see. Failing that, they could get draft-choice compensation for not keeping him.

Well the way it is constructed it was a good move by JD and it meets the needs of this season. If he pitches poorly I wouldn't see them trying to extend him and if he pitches well and they aren't contending he may bring back other pieces. Those pieces again you would unlikely be able to place a true value on based on your wait and see how it plays out. You cant really wait and if he performs poorly say that it was a bad trade." Thats not how it works, that's not how any of this works".
