I know Moreland will be on the team. Do you guys think Bannister will use him in a reserve / platoon role? I'm hoping we don't run him out there for 130 or 140 games like Wash intended to do before all the injuries each year.

I thought you told someone you weren't gonna bring MM up again until halfway through the season or something?

Mitch will not stay on the field enough to play 140 games due to missing time with some kind of injury. Besides that, there really isn't a position that I believe Mitch could play to see that much time unless Prince was the full time DH or couldn't go because of injury himself. Mitch likely has a bench role or will be traded IMO.

It really depends on how healthy he is. I believe he will get plenty of playing time unless he gets injured.

I recall the promise being until the year 2015

Well that was really going out on a limb, think maybe you could refrain until the first pitch of the season or something? It really does get old the constant bitching about one player, when there are plenty of other concerns.

MM is a waste of a roster spot

You can never have too much pitching. Weren't you saying that it's foolish to expect all these position player prospects to turn out? Why would the pitching prospects be any different?

i did but everyone else seems to think they will so i will assume now that they will.

and what do you do with all those pitchers? like i said you have Gonzalez, Thompson, Jackson, Ortiz, Archer, Tepeshe, Martinez all piling up in a backlog with 2 spots available behind Yu, Derek & Martin. what do you suggest we do?

Based on the makeup of the roster, I would probably agree, I'll give him through ST but I have no problems cutting ties at this point, he's had his chances and now it's time to see what others can do, we have a good number of 1b & dh guys ready to go

You develop them and see what falls through the funnel. Guaranteed all those pitchers won't be MLB pitchers.

You worry.about that when it gets here, it's safe to say Perez needs a year, Ortiz could use a couple years in the minors, Thompson and Rodriguez about the same, with Jackson probably benefiting from as much develop time as we can get them

Point is, these guys need to be in the minors until injuries or advanced development say otherwise, if any of the above guys are in the majors this year, it's probably not a good thing for the rangers, unless they just flat out earn it, which isn't likely this season

All from today's DMN.

Rangers are still in pursuit of Philadelphia’s Cole Hamels | Dallas Morning News

With the addition of Evan Gattis, Houston is shopping catchers. The Rangers have some interest in Carlos Corporan, a switch-hitter who could complement Robinson Chirinos. Corporan is signed for next season at $975,000.

Rangers’ addition of Kuyji Fujikawa shouldn’t threaten Neftali Feliz, Jon Daniels says | Dallas Morning News

Wellington Castillo is probably a better hitter and defender, I'd rather see what it would take to get him even if it's a little more, chirinos is no guarantee so the better the insurance policy the better

A lot can happen in the 1-3 years it might take some of them to develop fully, you hold onto them as long as you can, Hamels is an all in type of move, and that's not what we should be using resources on right now

As much as I like Hamels, I agree with jta in that the move - both financially and minor leaguers lost - is not where I think we should be for 2015.

I continue to think our best move is to add a good/MOR type for 2015 (maybe beyond), play at least until the AS break in order to see who's mended, who can produce, who's grown, etc.

I'm pretty sure he will be given a shot to be the DH.

I'm pretty sure he will be given a shot to be the DH.

Last season, I finally threw up my hands and surrendered my position as "VP of I Still Believe in Mitch Moreland" support group. Between his injuries/rehabs/extended slumps, my patience have been worn out. Abused actually, but that's on me.

However MM continues to be an intriguing piece rolling into ST. If he plays/hits well and maintains his health, then the Rangers may keep him, or use him as a trade piece. Some of this may depend on how PF looks at first; not that he's ever looked good there.
