Wasn't counting on him for this season I was look at 2016 which is why I didn't mention Detwiler or Colby

I think you're selling Detwiler short myself. Let's see how he does this season and then make some value judgments toward 2016.

If hamels= championship then it is the right deal

You never really can tell though. The Phillies had Halladay/Lee/Hamels in 2011 and didn't even make it out of the NLDS. He gets us closer, but nothing is for certain, and JD has the luxury/curse of having to anticipate how things shake out years from now.

not selling him short. i see him as a starter/long reliever who can step in when a regular starter needs a breaker or takes time off on the DL. he is prefect for that role plus he is a free agent in 2016

offensively they have stunk for the last 4 years. pitching got them to the NLDS in 2011 but they ran into better pitching which shut down what little offense they had

Hamels started 30 games last year with 25 of them quality starts. he threw 204 innings allowed 176 hits and 56 ER's with a 2.46 ERA and had a record of 9 and 9. which to me speaks volumes about how poor the offensive support he got from his team and how good a pitcher he is.

Hamels is a hell of a pitcher. Shame Texas couldn't make a move that would work for them. Darvish, Hamels and Holland would be a sick 3/5 of a rotation.

Jackson is our #3 prospect and Mazara is our #6 prospect according to The Rangers site and Sardinas would step in at SS replacing Rollins. they may ask about Alfaro but with 4 catching prospects behind Ruiz including Joseph and Rupp they have other needs. Mazara could crack their starting OF this season and Jackson could make their starting rotation in 2016. anymore than that and they would have to sweeten the deal with players or cash (preferably the cash)

The article that MLBTradeRumors.com linked to said the Phillies are looking for young catching back in a trade. Jackson is not anything close to #3 any longer. Mazara is probably 4 or 5 behind Gallo, Alfaro, and Chi Chi and maybe Thompson. Sardinas will probably be a utility player for a contending team at some point.

I am just basing it off of what the Rangers site shows but even at #6 Jackson would still be plus for them. And as for far as waiting for people to get healthy I don't believe Harrison will ever be healthy enough to pitch at the mlb level again and Martin is probably not going to be available until July or August. If the positional players are healthy and ready to go then if anything hurts this coming season it will be our starting rotation. Adding someone like Hamels is nothing but a big positive for this time.
Why would we not be in on the very good expensive free agent pitchers only to trade for one that would cost us some very good prospects plus be very expensive?

If we're able to land Hamels I'm not sure Texas would want to or be able to sign Darvish to long term big money like he'll be able to command.

Rangers VP of communications John Blake announced (on Twitter) that the club has avoided arbitration with right-hander Neftali Feliz by agreeing to a one-year deal. Feliz was projected to earn $4.1MM in 2015 after returning from Tommy John surgery to post a 1.99 ERA in 31 2/3 innings last season, and Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram tweets that Feliz will earn almost exactly that: a $4.125MM salary.

We have really stunk offensively the last 2 years and even if we improve some with Prince we will still be short offensively. We might go from pathetic to poor.

I sure hope we don't have room for Detwiler in the rotation in 2016. I hope we have Yu, Derek, Perez, Chi Chi and Thompson. Not to mention Tepesch, Martinez, Jackson, and Asher.

That's why you have to include Andrus in a Hamels trade.

I am hoping Darvish is one of the main reasons we are saving some money this offseason. I would love to see an extension announced before the season starts.

Did anyone hear Norm Hitzges discussing the Rangers this morning on The Ticket? He thinks most of the prognosticators will have the Rangers projected to finish last in the division and as one of the bottom three teams in the AL by the time ST starts.

True. Still going to be extra payroll since Darvish will be in the 22-25 million range and I believe Hamels is in that range. I'm not saying the team can't afford it but I'm not sure the organization would want to go in that direction just yet at least especially since Profar's future status health wise is way up in the air for now.

Didn't hear it but I just don't see how people can say that given the amount of injuries this team had last year. I don't think anybody really knows how this team will be but I just can't see it as bad as it got last year.
