Braves sign Nick Markakis. I would think its a given Upton is traded now.

I agree with jta's take on Upton. I have very mixed feelings on having him in a Rangers uniform. On the one hand, he's undeniably talented and capable of putting up MVP numbers. But on the other hand, he has been fairly inconsistent throughout his short career- great years interrupted by very subpar ones. Plus there's the cost in terms of prospects it would take to get him here. I'd take the chance on him if it meant we got to hold on to Gallo and Alfaro (Thompson and Perez too). But I'm sure those are some of the names they'd be asking for in return.

I guess it boils down to how close the front office thinks we're close to contending again.

The thing about Upton is with it being a contract year he should be really focused. He has the tools. My only concern is I do not want us to give up too much for a 1 year rental.

I have no interest whatsoever in giving the Braves much more than some Pecan Lodge brisket for a one year rental, I'll tell ya that.

Do not like one year rentals. At the end of the year you have the same problem. Go young and build in house.

I'd give them Sardinas and Jackson for him. If we don't sign him after the year we would at least get a 1st round pick for him when someone else signs him.

Not me. Way too much for a one year rental in a year where we have nothing but questions all over the diamond. And then we get a nice draft pick, which may pay off 3/4 years down the road.

I'm much more in a mode of being very conservative for 2015, and seeing if Fielder is well enough to play first and hit with power, is Chirinos really a 100+ game a year catcher, can Choo play RF and produce, will EA bounce back, is Profar healthy enough to play at the ML level? And on and on.

just can't see being stagnant for a year or so hoping that everyone pans out

Donaldson has made some very good observations here. No sign of stagnation to me more like being sure of where your at before going forward spending money in the wrong place. example: How can we trade EA until we know for sure Profar can tote the barge? Do we need 1 or 2 cof? I'm not sure about Choo in rf. Point is: You are not being stagnant trying to satisfy all your needs by being careful where you spend limited money.

stagnant is standing with your hands in your pockets while everyone else around you is doing things to improve. we have needs and we are not doing anything to fill those needs. hopefully JD is not going to be satisfied with the product we have right now and makes some quality moves.

i'm in favor of QUALITY moves even if it means trading some of our prospects to make those moves

Because no announcements have been made does not mean JD is standing still with hands in pockets. I gave you a good example w/ EA. May be people wanting him but Profar has been holding up things. Who do you want to give up for whom and lets discuss that.

I'd probably do that one as well, but I always hate trading pitchers

I know what you mean. Although Jackson has not lived up to his expectations, it doesn't mean he won't turn a corner soon. Out of all of our top pitching prospects I'd be most willing to part with him though.

As far as Sardinas, I just don't think he's going to be anything special. I don't even see him as a piece we'll use moving forward, besides maybe a fill in

i'm not qualified to make those kind of suggestions that's JD's job. i hope that JD makes the quality moves this team needs. but we need at least one quality SP and to resign Colby Lewis. and to be honest we need a bat

He had a bad run at AAA but to that point he had totally lived up to expectations, but if he's injured or he's leveled out then yeah I'd be all for selling high on him
