How about Rua and Torii in the OF with Choo DHing? Choo in RF is going to be a disaster. Every time someone gets a base hit to RF with a man on they'll go 1st to 3rd. He'll cost us a ton of runs over the course of the year in RF.

I have never really liked the idea of having to pay that much money for a guy that will probably be the last contract he signs. Torii may give you 15 HR's for 10+ million dollars.

You are right though Choo is a bad outfielder in any spot out there, he should probably DH mostly. Then there is Fielder who should probably DH mostly next year until he's proven he's back to 100%

I'm w/you Murph. Lets go young and cheaper.

Well Bennie says we don't have a penny to spend, so I shouldn't be to worried about them signing Hunter.

Haha just yanking your chain Bennie

I am sure Torii's son would be embarrassed for him to play here just like he said he would be before.

Rangers weren't good enough for him back then but now he would sign here, no thanks. Go kick rocks in Minny Torii

I would prefer just to go with Rua in LF and choo in RF and spend that money on pitching. How will 1 year of a 40 year old Hunter costing 10 mil or more really help the team? Are they gonna pay him cause he made friends with Fielder?

Agree plus we are really taking away more playing time from Rua/Smolinski. They either would be sitting on the bench or back at AAA.

the first would be bad but 2nd would make sense for at least one of them.

Not if one is playing in LF and the other is playing 1B and Fielder is DHing

Given a chance, I could see Rua putting up numbers similar to Hunter 15-20 HRs and 80ish RBIs, not ideal numbers from a COF, but better than paying Hunter 8-10 million to do the same thing

Giving our young guys a chance and them panning out (plus SMART free agent moves) is what allowed us to become a contender, for them to pan out, we have to give them a chance

Giving that kind of money to Hunter is not smart

Giving them a chance makes perfectly good sense especially if Hunter is the alternative.

As @Buster_ESPN said, #Rangers indeed making push for Torii Hunter. #Orioles maintain interest. Talks coming to a head.

Looks like we will know soon enough. Maybe by end of day.

I really don't understand the want for him. Years past yes I see why but not now. Building with the young talent we have is the direction I would like to see. Might see it differently if we were seriously WS contenders.

Exactly what I'm wondering.

With other glaring needs staring us in the face, I'd much rather roll the dice with Rua out there than spend $10+ mil on Hunter.

About the only thing which makes sense about his potential signing is he apparently is a very good leader in the clubhouse, and we probably are lacking in this department.

He'd play slightly above average defense in a COF spot and be a nice fit for the #2 spot. I still say I wouldn't hate him on a 1 year deal. If he tanks, so what? It doesn't hurt us long term.

Besides we do not need to get older. We need to infuse this team with some young talent. I thought that Rua and Smolinski gave the team a lift when called up.

Doing well here. Not liking the off season so far though. Thinking if we do get Hunter, Rua and others truly plan to be trade fodder next week for a pitcher. Hope it's a good one if so.

Baylor! #5 with a bullet!!
