What do people think of moving into the top ten to select Watkins if he makes it out of top 5? I am surprised no one shouted at the top of their lungs we need to hold onto all 632 picks in the next two years and not do that..

btw quick recap on trade was our 1st & our early 3rd this year and 1st & 4th next year..

why not? do you feel that's too expensive? do you not feel he is worth that selection? too many holes in his game to provide that value? I am of the belief that he would provide an excellent deep threat to take the top off the D and provide room for Crabs and VD. I would not want him as our kr/pr no matter how explosive he is at that position.. just too much invested for him to be back there

Really? that surprises me a little bit. When you look at the cost of it, yea it is two first rounders, however in essence it is hopeful we would be in a similar drafting position near the end of the first round the next season and we would still have him as our first round pick this season.

I know it is two firsts, however with the potential impact he could make I would consider that benefit to outweigh the negative cost. Also, with dependable drafting throughout I wouldn't expect us to miss the picks that much.

I dunno if you have time or the care, but I did a rough mock a couple days ago in this thread that no one looked at..(NO ONE EVER LOOKS AT MY MOCKS.... DAMN YOU PEOPLE.. j/k, I know its some inside joke) lemme know what you think as to it addressing concerns you have with the team.

I would consider a move up for Gilbert if it only took a 1st and 3rd.

So after the shifting in salaries with Brooks, Boone, and Iupati...We have now used up $1,470,000 of 2014 cap space. Fuuuuuck.

Well I've seen JG all over the board on mock drafts. Even all the way down 2 us. So basically your only giving up what we did last year.

Just read this:

The rookie formed several bonds with his teammates in San Francisco. So much so, Patton was invited by Colin Kaepernick to train together in the offseason.

The plan was hatched as soon as the 49ers were flying back home from Sunday’s loss in the NFC Championship game. “He already told me on the plane that I’m going to train with him in Miami,” Patton said.

They'd better have a passing coach and QB camp going on in Miami. Kap needs to work - a lot - on his footwork, watch hours of film on the great pocket passers, and study defenses. He needs to spend the absolute minimum amount of time in the weight room or on the track to retain his current ability. Any other time needs to be spent learning how to be a pocket passer in the NFL.

I'm with Ray. I don't see anyone worthy of trading up for this year. Watkins and Gilbert would be worth it, but not for what it will cost to get them. A 1st and 3rd sounds about right, but I have a lot of confidence in finding the talent in later rounds. Baalke has shown promise in his decision making (other than the 2012 draft class) and the coaching staff has been able to handle grooming the players.

Some FA's that I'm interested in. I was actually surprised. There are a lot of guys that I would at least like to bring in for an interview and try to work out a salary cap friendly deal.

Jarius Bryd - (He's going to demand a high price, but I'm very interested. With him and Reid in that secondary! Holly crap).
Eugene Monroe (could he possibly be had for cheap?
Arthur Jones
Drayton Florence
Eben Britton (loved this guy coming out of college)
Alex Mack (another high priced guy, but one of the best Centers in football. He's worth bringing in for a vist at the very least)
TJ Ward
Malcolm Jenkins
Willie Colon
Nick Folk
Nate Allen
Larry English (Clyde's guy)
Peria Jerry
Eric Decker (probably too expensive from the benefit of Manning throwing his way)

Carlos Rogers - DB - 49ers

CSN Bay Area confirms 49ers CB Carlos Rogers is not expected back in 2014.

Rogers is owed $6.6 million in salary and bonuses, and turns 33 before next season, so he was never due back in 2014. Rogers can play the slot and outside at a reasonable clip, so he'll have value on the market once released. We suspect he'll wind up at around $3 million after testing the open waters.

I don't think Byrd would be a good long-term investment. The only safeties I think might be (depending on cost of course) are Malcom Jenkins & Nate Allen. Otherwise I think a rook or Culliver should fill a safety spot.

I've always liked Arthur Jones; I think he's been priced out of the role he'd fill with SF though.

Totally agree on Alex Mack. Keep that OL strong! It's the best non-QB move that can be done for the offense (especially under Harbaugh).

The problem with Alex Mack is I'd rather spend that type of money on someone else. Our oline already takes up a big chunk of the cap. I like the FA options at safety, though.

Ok so if it's between Jarius Byrd or Alex Mack you'd probably prefer Byrd right?

They'll both probably make just over 8 million a season.

Byrd has been a bit injury prone. That was just a list of guys I would like to bring in for talks. I wouldn't want to pay either of them 8 mil a season. That most likely would put them both out of our price range. Nate Allen and Malcolm Jenkins would probably be a bit cheaper.
