Michael Crabtree - WR - 49ers

The 49ers are expected to approach Michael Crabtree about a contract extension this offseason.

Crabtree is owed $3.5 million entering the final year of his rookie contract. The 49ers had to be pleased with his 2013 recovery from Achilles' surgery, as Crabtree returned late in the season and made an impact. He's 26 years old. Re-signing Crabtree could be much cheaper now as opposed to next winter.

Great. More DumbDumb at 10 times the cost & more Crabtree at 3 times the cost & more DumbDumb over-estimating his abilities.

Anquan Boldin - WR - 49ers

According to ESPN 49ers reporter Bill Williamson, the team "would like to keep" free agent Anquan Boldin.

Same goes for free agent S Donte Whitner and K Phil Dawson, per Williamson. The Niners are currently sitting on just over $7 million in salary cap space with a number of youngsters to extend before their rookie contracts expire. Ideally, San Francisco would find an alpha-type No. 1 receiver in May's draft.

Smart move. We were a different team once he came back, no doubt about it.

I don't know how likely it is that we bring anyone back except for Dawson, we just can't afford to do anything big in FA this year. We have our own guys to extend.

That's a reflection of how much Kyle Williams sucked more than it's a reflection of how good Crabtree is.

GMs who fall in love with good (not great) WRs are light weights. Crabtree is looking at double digit millions. Not anywhere near worth it.

Crabtree is SO replaceable.

If you think that Baalke is a lightweight then that is on you but I completely disagree. This team was considerably better as soon as Crabs came back, without him we are either a first round exit in the playoffs or don't even make it.

You feel in love with a good not great WR last season in Mike Wallace and wanted to pay him a similar contract.

Again, it is easy to be an armchair GM and criticize the real deal but I like what our GM has done and I trust him to make the right moves.

HEEEELLLLLLLL NOOOOO it doesn't make Miller expendable. A RB's best friends are his OL and his FB, the fact that Lattimore did so well with a lead blocker means that he will just that much better with one in front of him. It does mean that he needs to be a more patient runner but I'm hoping that he learned some of that from watching Gore this year.

One million percent agree

Significantly better than Kyle Williams isn't saying much. And Mike Wallace is a rare kind of WR who is not easily replaceable; that kind of deep threat is extremely hard to find. You can find lanky, possession WRs in every draft.

Sick, please explain to me what is so special about Mike Wallace that is, in your opinion, so hard to replace. I don't see it. I am not discounting that Wallace isn't a good WR, but he isn't this rare gem you have made him out to be over the past two-three years.

He's a true deep threat. He's like Desean Jackson or Percy Harvin (when healthy). He's the kind of player who's gonna make DBs play deeper, and that opens things up underneath.

If all of your WRs live underneath then the defense can play closer to the line of scrimmage.

A guy I would like to take a stab at is Martavis Bryant. 6'5'' 200lb and 4.4 speed.

If the 9ers are going to try to win games with fade routes they need to get bigger.

Anquan Boldin - WR - 49ers

CSN Bay Area considers free agent Anquan Boldin the "most likely candidate" to start opposite Michael Crabtree next season.

Ace beat writer Matt Maiocco considers wideout the 49ers' No. 1 offseason priority. He expects them to draft a receiver to compete with Quinton Patton for the No. 3 role and also re-sign Boldin. It shouldn't be an overly difficult negotiation as Boldin is going on 34 years old and won't land a guaranteed multi-year contract elsewhere. Maiocco suggests a two-year, $10 million contract that includes $6 million guaranteed.

I wonder why they scheduled the west coast Regional Combine during the Scouting Combine.

Harvin is a true deep threat? The guy caught two balls that traveled more than 20 yards in 2012 (out of 63), and 49 balls that traveled less than 10 yards. In 2011, only 2 of his 87 receptions traveled more than 20 yards, and 69 were thrown within 10. In 2010, he had a whopping six receptions (of 71) on passes that traveled more than 20 yards, and five (of 60) in 2009. Harvin has the speed to be a deep threat, but he certainly hasn't proven to be a true deep threat in the NFL to date.

Harvin was injured half the year, and he had a 2nd-year Christian Ponder throwing to him; that's about as bad as it gets at QB (especially for deep balls).

And being able to catch a slant and take it 50 yards because you're lightning fast still keeps the DBs playing deep. It's not always about how many deep balls a guy catches; it's also about what he opens up underneath for other players.

Daniel Kilgore - G - 49ers

The Sacramento Bee expects fourth-year OL Daniel Kilgore to succeed free agent Jonathan Goodwin as the 49ers' starting center in 2014.

Goodwin is a free agent. Center is a popular position for the 49ers in mock drafts, but beat writer Matt Barrows sounds confident San Francisco will use its premium picks elsewhere. Kilgore has been effective in spot duty the past two seasons, seeing (limited) playing time at all three interior line spots.
