Only one problem...Dallas city hall

Well that definitely is a hurdle. I pretty much despise Laura Miller. I liked what Ron Kirk did tho. Did whatever it took to get the AAC done and it happened.

Why sour on him? People bitch about players bolting for every last dollar and biggest contract. Now a player is willing to and takes less money to stay one place where he recently won a championship and was an integral part of that team you get sour? Texas may have had a bigger offer but I can't imagine that it was that much more. It's also hot as shit here so that probably did enter his mind.

Heat is so overrated. It's also friendly as shit in Texas compared to rude ass Boston. Players don't make up their minds around shit like that though. I hope his circle jerk buddies all suck ass this year. Fucker had a chance to be locked up for 3 years and didn't take it dammit. Still pisses me off.

Heat is overrated to a certain point. Playing in this heat for a few weeks is ok but you change that to 4 months then I do think it can take a toll on someone. And I'm just saying that from the perspective that all things are equal.

All things are never equal. I don't think people make decisions around that logic. At least, I don't think wise people do. Way too many variables at play in all those situations they make. Similar situations perhaps, but never equal.

Ok so what would be the downside in in Napoli taking the Boston deal versus a deal Texas may have offered for an extra year? You may see things different when you say people there are rude. I don't know if they're rude but they're just both different sports markets. There are dicks there just like there are dicks here. Either way he's getting a butt load of money. And a lot of folks might be dismissing the fact that he won a championship just 7 or 8 weeks ago there.

Either scenario he is set for life and being paid a butt load.

Wouldn't say it's pointless. In your opinion why don't you think it would be good?

I'll bite..... The crowds in downtown Dallas suck. All the life is sucked out of any arena or stadium we put there. Ever been to a mavericks game? Cuban pays some idiot big bucks to say " let's go mavs" over and over. Why does he do this? The mavericks have a huge corporate presence in regard to season ticket holders. These people go to the games to see and be seen. Watching the game is secondary. I doubt most of them know much about the game or the team. Take last week for example, Seattle set a new record for " loudest crowd" at a sporting event. We will never enjoy such a home field advantage, but at least Ranger fans try to make noise and be involved. A move to Dallas would suck....

Wow, looks like I gotta lot of catchin up to do! I'm gonna read all your posts and see what the talk has been about today. Sorry about that guys. I know I said I'd be back on and a lot of you guys rely on what I hear, so hopefully I can make up for the days news in this post. Here it goes.

1) Mike Napoli signed back with the sox. I was absolutely shocked at this. I got a text message that we actually had offered him MORE than them. Don't know numbers. But he really wanted to play in the field, and that was a big hurdle in our talks. I know a lot of you guys wanted nap back, but in my personal opinion this is a good thing. I mean, truly think about it. Why would we sign him? We don't need him. We would look like the angels, signing people we don't need. I love nap, but the fact is we need an outfielder. That hole in the outfield is staring us down right now, and signing other guys isn't gonna fill the void.
2) If we trade for a pitcher, it will be david price. Not really a shocker there. We talked to a bunch of teams today, but we only talked about a pitcher with one of them, and that was tampa.
3) We asked about Jay Bruce today but he is not available. Same thing with Stanton, but I think I already posted that earlier.
4) We are interested in matt kemp. JD talked exclusively to Ned Coletti today about Kemp. They are trying to lose him and his salary. Apparently, the price is very high prospect wise, and they don't want to take on any of the salary. We'll see what happens.
5) FWIW, we aren't talking to anyone about their bullpen.
6) We called the phils about dominic brown today. It is extremely high and to my knowledge the conversation was pretty brief.
7) The Rangers inquired about justin upton today. No one knows about what the result was or if they will continue.
8) Shin Soo Choo is believed by the scouts close to the process to be between us, the tigers, and a third team. The signing of ellsbury did not help the process though. His asking price has increased since then understandably, but no one has bit yet. It is believed that he will be the next big FA to fall.
9) JD was very active today, despite the ACTUAL inactivity on our part. Anybody who is nervous that the names are falling off the board
10) Beltran is gone. Not much is known about how interested we were. I'm willing to bet, however, that news outlets think that we were more interested than we ACTUALLY were.

Hopefully you guys wake up and learn something new from this. I'm gonna go back and read you guys posts, cuz there are like 20 pages worth of stuff lol

We were all pretty bummed out last night, Terps. We are all split over Kemp. And no one thinks we'll sign Choo because of the money he's will demand.

I think both Beltran & Nap would have been good pick-ups for us. But the money for either one wasn't worth it IMO. And I still think JD has a trade in mind anyway, I just don't have a clue what it is.

Don't you find it ironic Napoli made an additional $6M by failing his physical last year?

I have worked for two companies headquartered in Boston. On my trips there, New Englander's are as a whole, very aloof and condescending.

I've literally been to hundreds of games in Arlington, and have always enjoyed the mainly friendly banter with the other teams fans. To me it's part of the great experience of going to a game. However, I can honestly say, the one team I've never had one moment of fun with is Red Sox. They just won't lower themselves to the Texas level it seems to me.

A couple of things based on all the posts. First of all when I go to Denver and see how the downtown was revitalized with the sports facilities down there and how you can take public transportation and go to restaurants and all before and after a game I would love to see something like that. Arlington fails miserably at this.

Second thing Kemp is a risk but so was Josh Hamilton. But if the cost on our part is too high including no break on salary and having to give up too many top prospects then forget it. I do not want us to knee jerk to all that has gone on and do something stupid just to do something. Leave that to the Angels.

Looking at the FA tracker and there is a boat load of pitchers out there. Did not realize that Halladay was one of them. Injuries finally did him in.

Well if you're buying a free agent the money is going to be high regardless

You're right there for sure. The FA market by design is overpriced.

But I'm betting the team which had the highest offer for Nap was Seattle, not us.

It was us but he wanted on the field.
