its not ideal, but I'd rather do that than bring AJ back if we can't make a deal with McCann
we need more offense not less

Honestly, I'd never considered this - Soto as the starter - for an option. I'm leery. But he's a much better catcher than either AJ or McCann. Who knows, he may rise to the occassion.
The catching market is so thin, we'd still be looking for a backup, and what if Soto failed horribly?
I agree with ya on McCann, cost wise, and I really have apprehensions on bringing back AJ. The longer he's with any team, the more he gets on everyone's nerves.
Put me down as "conflicted" I guess.
What's your backup plan then? This should be good
There are several other positions to improve if McCann falls through
as far as Catcher is concerned, it's McCann or AJ
there's Cruz for LF or DH, but if you go with him in Left then the Rangers need to look at bringing in a DH or possibly consider a musical chair at DH

You're right to be leery of Soto, but short of McCann there's not a lot out there, another year of AJ on this team offensively and defensively would drive me crazy
I don't think of Soto as much of an offensive downgrade from AJ honestly, less average but probably more of everything else
well there is Blanco or Salty as possibles
I kind of get the feeling that Salty didn't leave here under great conditions. Don't know this for fact. But I read recently he had some "maturity" issues while here and with the Braves.
He sure helped himself this season with his overall performance. That's fact.
Catching is so thin in the majors now, Salty-McCann-AJ, can all make some outrageous demands and probably get it from someone.

not real happy with the options but we have to address no catching as one of our 1st moves. personally i see the choices as McCann, AJ, Salty for the primary with Soto as the backup
Scottie as a matter of interest, how do you grade AJ over Soto?not real happy with the options but we have to address no catching as one of our 1st moves. personally i see the choices as McCann, AJ, Salty for the primary with Soto as the backup

barely. if Soto couldn't be the primary for the Cubs i can't see him doing it for the Rangers
It may come to pass that Soto will get the job. Hope it's McCann. But no more AJ.Just batting average and strikeouts, Soto wins every other battle
