How is that a bad deal for them? They have a logjam in their rotation. They also are sorely in need of a starting SS. I think it's you who is overvaluing the oft injured Taveras.

I have a bunch of buddies in Memphis - which is St Lou south - and they swear Taveras is damn near an untouchable as the Cards have. Miller is going somewhere, and soon. And he's a stud.

You're right they need a SS. It just doesn't have to be ours is all I'm saying.

I'm just trying to stay semi objective is all. Please, let's not forget, I'm a Rangers fan.

OK Big Doggg.....go out back on Friday at lunch, and tell Ray "Shorty" sent ya and you're in.

He's a bizarre, incredibly intelligent, opinionated SOB, but I love him. His health is not so good now, so it depends on how he's feeling as to his "entertainment value."

And damn, I've met you if you've been going out there since 85. No way around it.

I was eating Christmas Eve at Bon A Braza Brazilian Steak House with my family 4/5 years ago and he was in there with his group. They got up to leave and coming right by our table. I said good evening, Merry Christmas and all and then said, Don't worry, I didn't eat the ribs tonight, I know where to go get those when I want um. His face lit up and next thing you know a young lady was pulling him away from the table cause it looked as if he was going to sit down. Nice Guy.... He knows our faces but other than that night, we've never exchanged names.

I had three boys play football and baseball at Trinity and North Main always catered the events.

Stephen Drew? You think they really want to start Drew at SS? They would have to pay him 12+ per year and he's nowhere close to the ballplayer that EA is.

I doubt it would happen either, but I don't think it's crazy, or absurd.

No, they don't want Drew

LF Choo
SS Andrus
3B Beltre
1B Fielder
RF Rios
DH Moreland
C Soto
2b Profar
CF Martin/Gentry

That could be nice.

I agree except I'd do Rios/Beltre/Fielder and no way I put Fielder in the field over Moreland, despite what Wash says

I'm trying to balance what I'd like to see with what I think we'd see.

Far as I know he's only finished one full season in the minors because of nagging things. Only more than 500 PAs once.

It's the high ankle sprain, he finally had surgery because it wasn't healing, I've not heard or read about any other injuries. He's expected to fully recover and the Cards GM stated a few weeks ago, he would start in center if Beltran is not signed.
for whatever that's worth

It was Daniels that said Fielder would be the primary 1st

if that actually means anything.

I agree. He's going to have value to another team and I think jd already has plans for him. I like the guy, but when you have a chance to make such a drastic upgrade at a given position, you take it.

Ah, well despite JD or Wash says, no reason to play the inferior defender just b/c his feelings might get hurt, but if they think it means he'll have a monster season by keeping him happy, by all means

be honest do you really think that Fielder will be anything but the primary 1st baseman?

feel better but it will be even better when we have addressed LF & C

Well at this point, its whether or not we outbid another team for McCann, which I doubt

I'd hitch my horse to Choo if we were going to sign somebody and roll with Soto and sign Navarro to back him up

Yet they haven't traded for Tulo or signed Drew yet. Seriously the deal isn't that preposterous. Just because it might not happen, doesn't mean it's a silly deal.

the problem is, they do need Taveras...but no, it's not something I would call absurd. They do have other OF's in the farm, but none to my knowledge that project as well as Taveras.

I guess I would call it highly unlikely, the only thing I maybe, could see is they use Beltran as a bridge to the other OF prospects, but all signs point to they don't want to part with Taveras
