Apparently the NYY were paying attention. Cashman said today, until the Cano/Jay Z camp gets realistic and comes off the 10 years @ $300 mil nonsense they have nothing to talk about.

Just a thought, but I wonder if this isn't more about Jay Z trying to show he can run with the Boras's of the world even though it's his first opportunity, than it is about Cano. IMO, it's gonna blow up and make him look foolish.

No way anyone is paying him 300, probably just trying to drive it up so 225 looks like a bargain

I believe him, it didn't make any sense. And I also thought it was a bit strange that suddenly an offer appeared that no one had ever heard of, after almost a year.

No big deal, not like I think JD or whoever was trying to do something malacious, maybe the offer was a rumor and we took it as the truth.

Wish I had phrased it this way. Nice job.

The timing I found very odd. And the numbers of $27 mil for 3 he turns down to gain 9% more. Can't see this making sense for anyone involved. But anyway, it is what it is, or was, Murphy has moved on, we're happy for him and wish him well. Now let's get on with our business. And there's a lot of business to be had.

Rangers-Tigers discuss Ian Kinsler-Prince Fielder trade
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
The Rangers and Tigers are discussing a trade involving Rangers second baseman Ian Kinsler and Tigers first baseman Prince Fielder, CBSSports.com baseball insider Jon Heyman reports.

Kinsler is owed $62 million over four seasons, and the team owns a club option for 2018 that would cost an extra $5 million to exercise. The three-time All-Star hit .277/.344/.413 with 13 home runs, 72 RBI and 15 stolen bases in 545 at-bats last season. The Rangers have been trying to clear a logjam in the middle infield that includes Kinsler, Elvis Andrus and Jurickson Profar.

Fielder is owed $24 million annually through the 2020 season and has a limited no-trade clause in his contract that allows him to block trades to 10 teams. The five-time All-Star hit .279/.362/.457 with 25 home runs and 106 RBI in 624 at-bats last season.

That's taking on a lot of money of course but you can't deny the OBP and power. He has had 1 year of an OBP of lower than .400 in the last 5 years. I'm not sure I realized he got on base that much. He would do damage in Arlington like he did in MIL.

That adds 10 million or so to this year I believe. I hope JD is planning on going over the 125. That's going to be one expensive DH in a few years.

The Tigers have agreed to trade Prince Fielder to the Rangers for Ian Kinsler, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. There could be another player involved in the trade as well, but that hasn't been confirmed, Heyman writes. There could also be money involved to offset the difference between Fielder's contract and Kinsler's.

FIelder has a limited no-trade clause as a part of his contract and it turns out that Texas was on his no-trade list, but he apparently waived it to help facilitate the deal.

If this be true I like it. I especially like the idea of us not being totally on the hook for his contract. And he should wear out LF in Arlington.

I'm struggling with this....we do get to keep Profar, but is Fielder on the decline? And what does this mean for a McCann deal and his future role as DH? I see Fielder as a DH in a few years....We are apparently getting cash back but we still have a huge contract on our books....I don't know folks, I'm having trouble getting excited over this deal....

Wow, just heard the news. I really like Kinsler, but this helps both teams. Fielder can KILL it in this park. I guess Profar goes to 2B now? Hope there is a good chunk of money, like $5M per year included.

What does it mean for Moreland? How does JD plan on getting a C, DH, and COFer?
I just saw 1B as the least worrysome out of the major concerns. Please tell me this doesn't mean Gentry and Soto start now.

I am as well. Just heard about it. Not really saving any money here. Not sure we are still in on McCann.
