I brought up Cano at the end of last month at some point, and had it shot down pretty hard. :bawling:
I know not many of you want Kemp and I don't know of another team besides the Royals that might take Ian. So for the signing of Cano I would think it's Butler, Ethier, Kemp, or Crawford that we would get for Ian.

2. Cano
3. Kemp
4. Beltre
5. McCann
6. Rios

That sounds very intriguing, and yes I know that would put well over the 125 that JD says we'll be around.

I'm not interested in either of Cano or Kemp.

Unfortunately, there's not a lot to choose from, but this would be the most feared line-up in the AL. As we know, if you want to get better in FA you will have to overpay. I wish Cano would listem on 6/150.

And he very well may, but signing the top FA to a monster deal rarely works out and it actually creates a bigger log jam at MIF. It also weakens JD's bargaining position because now there's no question he has to trade at minimum one, and most likely two middle infielders. On top of that, if kinsler is one of those traded (he would almost have to be) were going to be paying a big chunk of his salary as well.

I would assume that JD is smart enough to know that, and would already move Ian before the signing of Cano. We wouldn't necessarily have to pay any of Ian's contract. It would just depend on who we traded him for. JD has said he's not interested in paying any of Ian's contract in a trade. That doesn't mean he wouldn't though. In this scenario I would still move Profar to the Cards, if possible.

I can completely understand the hesitation, but I can also see the upside of a major overhaul like this. We would be bringing in Cano, Kemp, McCann, Miller, and maybe Adams while giving up Ian and Profar.

My favorite minor leaguer:

Joey Gallo, who led all of minor-league baseball with 40 homers (in 111 games) this past season, was named to the 2013 Topps Class A All-Star team at third base.

Gallo, 20, was selected in the 39th round of the 2012 draft. At Class A Hickory in 2013, Gallo led the South Atlantic League in slugging percentage at .610 and OPS at .944.

He just turned 20 today.

Cano is just not affordable and we don't need him. I'm not sure about Kemp but doesn't he have a history of injuries?

he had 2 left shoulder surgeries and ankle surgery last year. he is a walking time bomb with an unacceptable contract

I thought I read that. Agree we don't need that.

His Footwork and defense at third leaves something to be desired. He's a first base conversion waiting to happen.

Absolutely no way to Matt Kemp.

If possible, move Beltre to first and either EA or Profar to third. Just a passing thought.

Beltre still has at least one more year at 3rd IMO. I would really hate it if JD was thinking of going into this year w/ Profar at 3rd and Beltre DH.

I'd almost bet my house that's not the case.

Free agent Tracker:
A couple of baseball executives offered much more conservative estimates. They told ESPN's Buster Olney that Choo ought to receive a five-year deal that pays about $15 million per year (Insider subscription required).
Jon Heyman doubts that the Mets can acquire Choo given the contract figures mentioned above. A [ame=""]meeting has been scheduled[/ame] with Boras, tweets David Lennon.
On the other hand, Heyman hears that the Rangers will consider Choo as an alternative to re-signing Nelson Cruz.

What do you guys think about bringing in AJ Burnett on a 1 year deal? He has a very good ground ball ratio. He had 191 IP w/ a 3.30 ERA last year. He says he would only pitch for Pit though.
