Hitting EA 9th is something I've never even considered, so I'd have to give it more thought... I get the Gentry thing, but do we really think Gentry would lead off?

I mean if not, then I don't like ability to steal taken away at the top
I still think Kins is a good base-runner, has good instincts and seems to read the ball of the bat better than a lot of players on the team,
BUT, I think we all agree his stealing days are trending really downward, they could rebound a little

Anyway, we don't know what line-up we're looking at, so...who knows I guess

No Gentry wouldn't lead off. He or Leo would hit 8th with Elvis at 9.

This was predicated on Choo being signed. Choo Rios and Kinsler are plenty fast enough to be at the top of the order.

Choo was the missing part, I didn't catch that

yes, I would agree those 3 are fast enough
still, not sure about EA hitting 9th, but with Choo I certainly could see a debate

Texas Sports Insider @TexasInsiders Follow Andro just told us David Murphy turned down 3 years and $27M from the #Rangers during the 2012 offseason. He wanted 3 years and $30M

lol you messed up Murph.

MURPH!
3 million was the deal breaker? holy ....

well, that worked out.
I really do wish him the best and hope he has a nice rebound season, he'll get picked up
and it does show that his horrible season was not predictable

let me add, he starts to slump which is not abnormal, and then with the knowledge of what he turned down...he might of mind-f'd himself.

Thank the good lord he did.

But you do have to admit it proves JD & Co had faith in him

and now I have to admit I owe JD an apology

but, but wait! I wanted Murph re-signed and so did JD
That means I'm JD's equal.

You'll have to imagine it starting out slow and getting faster.

Why in the world would he turn down 9M/yr? I wonder if he has fired that agent.

Because he and his agent didn't believe his 2012 was an outlier. They believed it was just the start. They gambled and lost. Same happened with Cruz and his agents and Napoli and his.

Had he really been a 3 win a year player then 9 million would have been insanely cheap.

Yeah but for 3 more million? I could understand if they said he wanted 3/45 or something.
Oh well. He might get 3-6 a year now.

Lol just read the Astros have a big announcement planned tomorrow. Bunch of morons speculating that Nolan Ryan is being hired by them, a few days after they said he has not been offered a job....It's nothing more than them announcing that they were selected for the Civil Right's Game this year.
Ultimate Astros » Astros to host annual Civil Rights Game in 2014

silly Astros fans

Don't care what happened in the F.O with Ryan anymore or who did what, I will miss him. Certainly not a huge deal, but ya know...

I think so, but his career SLG% in the leadoff spot is .308, which is beyond pathetic even for Elvis

I think there was a year before Kinsler was moved there that Andrus hit lead off exclusively. He seemed to spend way to much time trying to work the count. Problem was he was taking to many hittable pitches in the strike zone and wound up hitting behind in the count a lot.
