I think the issue with Andrus in the leadoff spot is he's become a much less effective hitter overall, but maybe he's more mature now and could not have it affect his overall game

maybe Martin could be turned into a lead-off hitter. he did well for a while

Much less effective? How? His numbers are close to being the same every year.

the material has been stated for over 10 years Scotsman....that isn't changing.

funny when Washington bashes are accepted has a righteous movement on this board but dare anyone talk about moving Kinsler for Profar.

I would hit Elvis 9th FWIW, but that might hinder his ability to steal 40 bags. I believe the further you hit in the order on average you get 30 less PA than the guy in front of you. Not sure if that is the exact math or not, but it adds up in the end.

I'm speaking to his .308 slugging percentage, he was a different kind of hitter leading off and far less effective, he didn't drive the ball at all

Think 9 is ideal for Martin at this point, due to his poor OBP

Oh ok. I thought you meant year to year. Elvis struggled for half of the year. Wasn't he hitting lead off for awhile while Ian was hurt?

It's like having Gentry hit 9th. That kind of speed and OBP is valuable when the lineup turns over. That also means less bunts from Elvis. I hate having the 2nd hole guy being asked to bunt.

I think so, but his career SLG% in the leadoff spot is .308, which is beyond pathetic even for Elvis

I remember when a lot of people wanted to try him in the lead off spot, and I remember it not working so well. I don't think it was last year that he was horrible, but I could be getting the years mixed up.

He hasn't had consistent PAs at lead off since 2010. He's had less than 200 the last 3 years combined.

always liked having some speed at 9th and prefer to bury something at 8, but the stealing Rev...ouch
I don't think the bunting matters, he'll keep doing it regardless

Elvis hit .174, had a SLG% of .174, with an OPS of .414 in 25 games in 2013 according to Baseball reference.

That's the first AB of the game.

.231, .299, .568 for all PA while in the lead off spot last year

Well look at Gentry. He had 287 PA and had 24 SBs. Elvis could easily swipe 30+ with 550 PAs. He would just have to be more aggressive.

Hitting EA 9th is something I've never even considered, so I'd have to give it more thought... I get the Gentry thing, but do we really think Gentry would lead off?

I mean if not, then I don't like ability to steal taken away at the top
I still think Kins is a good base-runner, has good instincts and seems to read the ball of the bat better than a lot of players on the team,
BUT, I think we all agree his stealing days are trending really downward, they could rebound a little

Anyway, we don't know what line-up we're looking at, so...who knows I guess
